Job summary

The Archdiocese of San Antonio is seeking a Custodian to maintain a neat, clean, safe, and organized parish environment. The role supports staff by ensuring facilities are well kept and ready for events in accordance with organizational policies.

The position is part-time, non-exempt, with a schedule of approximately 7 hours per hall event, some nights and weekends, and will report to the Pastor. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Catholic teachings required or preferred.
• Ability to work independently and with others.
• Capable to perform in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong planning and critical thinking skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cleans rooms, kitchens, hallways, and carpeted areas as needed.
• Disinfects bathrooms after events and replenishes supplies.
• Removes daily trash from offices and eating areas.
• Assists with setup and cleanup for meetings and events.
• Maintains exterior entrances and walkways; follows safety policies.

Summary

The Custodian fulfills the mission by maintaining a neat, clean, safe, and organized environment. The Custodian assists the staff by ensuring that organization is well maintained for its purpose. The Custodian has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with organizational policies.

Essential Job Functions

• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic organization


• Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church


• Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards, policies and procedures of the Archdiocese


• Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive matters


• Cleans rooms, kitchens, hallways, and carpeted areas when applicable


• Cleans and disinfects bathrooms after each hall event and replenishes supplies


• Removes trash from offices and eating areas on a daily basis when applicable


• Conducts weekly, monthly, and seasonal cleaning as required


• Assists with the set up and clean-up for meetings and special events


• Periodically disinfects door handles, telephones, switch plates, and trash receptacles


• Maintains exterior entrances and walkways


• Applies universal precautions in cleaning practices


• Maintains the security of issued keys, secures buildings, turns off lights, sets thermostats


• Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits


• Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the staff

Other Job Functions

• Collaborates with others to enhance the work environment


• Conducts emergency clean ups and repairs as needed


• Conducts periodic maintenance activities and minor repairs


• Communicates maintenance and repair issues to the parish office

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent, preferred


2. Experience with past custodial work or building maintenance preferred but not required
