Job summary

Boyce Middle School in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking an Anticipated 1.0 Custodian to maintain a clean school facility and grounds for students, staff and the community. The role covers the school year evening shifts (3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.) with summer hours (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.).

Eligible candidates should have at least 1 year of custodian/groundskeeper experience and a high school diploma or GED, with strong communication and safety awareness. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year work experience as a custodian and/or groundskeeper.
• High School diploma or GED certificate.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, students, staff, administrators and community members.
• Exhibit effective communication skills.
• Being proper stewards of district property, materials and equipment.
• Work with a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
• Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all inspection regulations, safety codes and district requirements and school board policies.
• Ability to push, pull and carry a minimum of 50 lbs
• Must have a valid state driver’s license, with reliable transportation to travel between different district buildings on assigned shift.

Responsibilities

• Clean designated spaces, equipment and materials
• Perform room and equipment set-up and breakdown for activities and events
• Perform seasonal athletic fields and general grounds work
• Perform general labor functions including unloading bulk material from trucks
• Maintain building and grounds security
• Report building, grounds, and equipment conditions that may need remedied or repaired
• Participate in fire and emergency drills, know emergency procedures and the location and use of first-aid and fire fighting equipment
• Move furniture and equipment
• Assists visitors utilizing the facilities
• Responsible for the preservation and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment, as well as assist in the repair of equipment and facilities
• Operate various floor equipment, including battery-powered auto-scrubbers/buffers and high-speed/high torque propane burnishers
• Perform snow-removal, both operation of fuel-powered snow removal equipment and manual removal using shovel
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUMMARY:
