Job summary

SBM Management Services, LP is seeking a Custodian in Madison, AL to maintain cleanliness and sanitation across assigned areas. Duties include janitorial tasks, hazardous waste handling, and operating cleaning equipment.

The role requires following safety policies, working as a team, and presenting a professional image. Training is provided, with an evening Mon-Fri shift from 5pm to 9pm.

Qualifications

• Education requirements are minimal with on-the-job training.
• Basic safety rules and PPE usage will be provided.
• Preference for candidate with prior custodial or janitorial experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial duties and follow the daily schedule.
• Handle hazardous waste tasks including collection, storage, and labeling.
• Operate motorized cleaning equipment and keep area tidy.
• Report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor promptly.
• Comply with safety rules and company policies.
• Work as part of a team and take direction from leaders.
• Maintain professional appearance and communicate with staff and customers.

To perform this job successfully and safely, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

• Perform all duties listed on the daily schedule
• Perform Hazardous Waste responsibilities including collecting, classifying, sorting, storing, shipping and receiving, labeling, cleaning, recycling, packaging of special and hazardous waste.
• Operate motorized cleaning equipment
• Maintain daily upkeep of assigned area
• Report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor
• Comply with safety rules, policies, and procedures
• Stop at risk behavior of others and self
• Perform work assignments in a team with other employees
• Maintain clean work area
• Follow all protocols, company procedures, policies, and rules
• Take direction and respond to supervision
• Talk with lead, supervisor, co-workers, managers, and customers in a professional manner
• Fill in during staff shortage
• Support shift lead in completing punch-list items
• Use proper personal protective equipment
• Present a professional appearance and conduct
• Understand customer service and satisfaction
• Understand reporting systems, and of the environment

Education and/ or Experience: No specific education requirement, 3-6 months training or experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: May be required to have a valid driver’s license. Completed all safety and task training certification. May be required to be forklift certified.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Bilingual a plus

Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment and willing to share with team

Knowledge of the upkeep and care of the cleaning equipment

Knowledge of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
