Job summary

The Learning Lamp is hiring part-time custodians to support Richland School District. Evening shifts follow the school day, ensuring clean, safe facilities for students and staff. We value teamwork and reliability in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities include cleaning, restocking, event setup, and reporting maintenance issues. The role requires a high school diploma, ability to pass clearances, physical stamina, and strong communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Willingness to pass required clearances and training to ensure safety of children.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products and equipment.
• Physical ability to bend, lift, and stand for extended periods.
• Attention to detail and proactive maintenance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors regularly.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
• Empty waste receptacles and dispose of trash.
• Sort and recycle materials according to school policies.
• Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.
• Strip, wax, and buff floors as needed.
• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and toiletries.
• Report maintenance issues promptly.
• Assist with set-up and clean-up for events.
• Monitor safety hazards and ensure exits are accessible.
• Seasonal duties like snow removal and landscaping.
• Coordinate with custodial staff and communicate with school staff.
• Adhere to safety protocols and school policies.

What are the duties and responsibilities?

Cleaning And Sanitizing

• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors regularly.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.

Trash Removal

• Empty waste receptacles and dispose of trash.
• Sort and recycle materials according to school policies.

Surface Maintenance

• Dust and polish furniture, fixtures, and surfaces.
• Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces.

Floor Care

• Strip, wax, and buff floors as needed.
• Shampoo carpets and rugs.

Restocking Supplies

• Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and toiletries.
• Inform supervisors of any supply needs or equipment malfunctions.

Maintenance Tasks

• Report maintenance issues, damages, and needed repairs promptly.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and fixing minor plumbing issues.

Event Support

• Assist with set-up and clean-up for special events, meetings, and activities.
• Arrange furniture and equipment as needed.

Safety And Security

• Monitor and report safety hazards and security concerns.
• Ensure that exits are clear and accessible.

Seasonal Duties

• Perform seasonal tasks, such as snow removal and salting during winter.
• Assist with landscaping duties during warmer months.

Collaboration

• Coordinate with other custodial staff to ensure comprehensive coverage.
• Communicate effectively with school staff and administrators.

Compliance

• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
• Follow school policies and procedures related to custodial tasks.

What are the required qualifications?

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Willingness to go through and pass the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: mandated reporter training, a physical, and TB test. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, products, and equipment.
• Physical ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
• Attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintenance.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
