Job summary

UC Irvine is seeking a Custodian to maintain clean, safe facilities across campus. Under supervision, you will perform daily floor care, dusting, bathroom cleaning, window washing, and trash removal, with occasional weekend shifts.

You’ll work with a team to ensure high standards of cleanliness and a healthy environment for students, faculty, and staff. The role requires physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, English communication skills, and a valid California driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Required: ability to vacuum, mop, dust, and clean restrooms and fixtures.
• Required: knowledge of safe cleaning supplies and proper handling.
• Required: ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license and pass DMV Pull Notice program.

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the cleaning of UC Irvine facilities. These duties will include but not be limited to: daily floor care, dusting, bathroom cleaning and disinfecting kitchen cleaning, cleaning of fixtures and furniture, interior and exterior trash removal, window cleaning, and additional tasks as necessary (i.e. furniture moving) to ensure all facilities are maintained at a high level of cleanliness. Responsibilities may include weekend work during open and closing and during peak work periods, and may also include after-hours emergency response and cleaning.

Qualifications

Required:

• Ability to vacuum, mop, dust, wash walls, wash windows and other surfaces
• Ability to clean sinks, showers, and toilets.
• Ability to use vacuum, mop and pail, and other related equipment.
• Knowledge of the correct and safe use of proper cleaning supplies.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing for the purpose of instructions, record keeping and communicating issues with students and staff.
• Must possess a valid California Driver's License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice

Driver's License:

• Required to hold a valid drivers license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

Preferred:

• Bi-lingual Spanish/English.
• A minimum of 1 year of experienceExperience working in a maintenance, custodial, or janitorial role within a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Special Conditions:

• Must be able to operate a Facilities Management vehicle
• Must be able to work outside regularly scheduled shift.
• Must Pass a Background check
