Job summary

The North Lawrence Community Schools are seeking a dedicated Custodian to uphold a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students and staff. You will perform daily cleaning and ongoing maintenance to support effective learning and development.

Responsibilities include assisting external groups, minor repair work, and general upkeep of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and shared spaces, while ensuring energy efficiency and safety protocols are followed.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily and scheduled cleaning duties across assigned areas.
• Assist external groups and organizations using school facilities.
• Make minor repairs to equipment and furnishings as needed.
• Perform general maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: Snow removal and grass cutting, Window and glass cleaning (inside and out), Replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles, Cleaning restrooms and water fountains, Dusting, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning, Floor care (sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, buffing).
• Support the delivery and unloading of supplies.
• Provide assistance with light construction or special projects.
• Collaborate with the maintenance team as needed.
• Maintain the building and grounds, ensuring sidewalks, driveways, and play areas remain clean and hazard‑free.
• Monitor and regulate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to maintain seasonal comfort while optimizing energy efficiency.
• Ensure all exit doors are accessible and operational daily.
• Report property damage or safety concerns to the principal immediately.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of custodial supplies and equipment; request replenishments in a timely manner.
• Move furniture and equipment as required for events or operational needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned that support the upkeep and function of the school building or district (NLCS).

Building Maintenance
