Responsibilities

• Keeps buildings and premises neat and clean, including sidewalks, driveways, play areas, and grounds.
• Shovels, plows, and/or sands walkways and steps as needed.
• Checks daily that exit doors and panic bars work during occupancy hours.
• Raises and lowers the U.S. flag on school days.
• Cleans classrooms, chalk boards, restrooms, locker rooms, and floors daily.
• Reports needed repairs to supervisor; keeps inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Remains on site during school hours and when building use is authorized.
• Open/close building and ensure doors and windows are secure; turn off unneeded lights.
• Move furniture as needed for activities; dispose of trash per local laws.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Description: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

Qualifications:

• Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
• Ability to carry out the duties described below.

Duties:

• Keeps buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, play areas, and grounds neat and clean at all times.
• Shovels, plows, and/or sands walkways and steps as needed.
• Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
• Raises the United States flag at or before 8 a.m. on each school day, and lowers it at or after 3:30 p.m.
• Sweeps classrooms, dusts furniture, and cleans all chalk boards daily.
• Scrubs, cleans, and disinfects restrooms and locker rooms and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
• Cleans halls after school each day, and during the day if required.
• Washes all windows, both inside and out at least once a year, and more frequently is necessary.
• Keeps the grounds free of rubbish and performs such other tasks that are necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe, attractive condition.
• Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation.
• Makes minor building repairs.
• Reports needed repairs promptly to the supervisor.
• Reports any damage to school property immediately to the Site Administrator.
• Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the Site Administrator.
• Assumes the responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day, and ensures all doors and windows are secured and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off before leaving.
• Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements far enough in advance so they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his/her duties.
• Moves furniture or equipment with buildings as required for various activities as directed.
• Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
