Job Purpose:

Supervise and administer a program of systematic cleaning and care of university facilities, in accordance with established guidelines. Perform a variety of custodial assignments, including such duties as cleaning, snow and ice removal, furniture handling, emergency response, and restorative services. Work in a variety of settings including dormitories, food service areas, administrative offices, academic buildings, and outdoors.

Essential Functions:
  • 40% - Supervisor
    • Plan and schedule staff assignments and cleaning services based on workload and available manpower, reassigns staff to ensure that work is accomplished according to schedule and that staff is fully utilized.
    • Arranges for shifting of personnel to handle emergency cleaning projects.
    • Evaluate and make recommendations for equipment, changes in cleaning methods, and work performance standards to ensure a more effective and efficient cleaning program.
    • Supervises minor routine maintenance repairs to buildings and equipment. Reports, orally or in writing, conditions requiring a higher-level repair.
    • Supervises the arrangement of premises for special events, such as graduations, athletic events and summer conferences.
    • Interviews prospective employees and recommends selection of qualified candidates.
    • Set training standards for new employees and ensures that standards are being met by follow-up with management team and by personal observations.
    • Evaluates work performances against established standards.
    • Where below standard work is apparent, takes appropriate remedial action to improve work performances.
    • Ensures the efficient and effective use of time by the staff by such means as enforcing the attendance rules, resolving disciplinary problems, and meeting established work schedule.
    • Recommends retention or termination of probationary employees.
    • Excellent knowledge of the university's cleaning and care procedures, custodial equipment and effective custodial work performance standards.
  • 35% - Cleaning
    • Clean assigned campus buildings and dorms with established practices and procedures.
    • Clean chalkboards and erasers; dust furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty waste baskets, trash containers, and recycle bins; wash interior/exterior windows; clean ashtrays and cigarette urns.
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, shower rooms, fixtures, refill restroom dispensers in accordance with established practices and procedures.
    • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools.
    • Deep clean dorms and apartments in summer for upcoming school year and help with cleaning and preparing for summer conferences.
    • Essential functions listed here require the physical and environmental demands in order to carry out these duties.
  • 15% - Additional custodial services
    • Assist with leaves and snow removal in fall and wintertime.
    • Strip, clean, burnish and apply floor finish to floors; vacuum and extract carpets and upholstery.
    • Help with special event set up and furniture relocation.
  • 10% - Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirement:

High School Diploma or GED

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Maximum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 66480

Minimum Salary (Non-Exempt): 21.31
