Job summary

Cabot Public Schools, Inc. is seeking a Custodial Response Team Custodian I to maintain a high level of cleanliness across facilities.

You will follow directions from the lead custodian and supervisor, assist with events, and ensure safe, efficient operation of cleaning tasks. Responsibilities include communicating needs for supplies, performing minor repairs, and maintaining HVAC and lighting in line with district standards.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and follow instructions from lead custodian and supervisor.
  • Inform lead custodian about supplies and equipment needs.
  • Lift/move furniture, supplies, and equipment as directed.
  • Assist with setup/teardown for events and activities.
  • Perform minor maintenance and report major repairs.
  • Address minor safety hazards and report major hazards/ damages.
  • Maintain facilities to district cleanliness standards.
  • Regulate HVAC for appropriate environment and efficiency.
  • Turn off unnecessary lights and secure premises when appropriate.
  • Maintain floors, walkways, and cleanliness in all areas.
  • Dispose of trash according to laws and district procedures.
  • Follow safety rules for tools and power equipment and wear safety gear.

Position Summary:

Perform custodial tasks to defined standards of cleanliness. Maintains the facility in a high state of cleanliness during the day.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Receive and follow instructions as directed by the lead custodian in collaboration with building administrator and the Director of Custodial Services
  • Inform lead custodian of needed supplies and equipment in a timely manner as to not hinder the continued performance of job duties
  • Lift and move furniture, supplies, and equipment as directed
  • Assist with the preparation of special events and activities to include, but not necessarily limited to, setting up, tearing down, and cleaning
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs; immediately reports to lead custodian/building administrator needed major repairs by maintenance personnel
  • Correct any minor safety hazards; immediately report to lead custodian/building administrator major safety hazards and damage to school property
  • Maintain facilities to district standards of cleanliness as published in the Cabot Public Schools Custodial Training Manual
  • Regulate the heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide an environment appropriate to the seasons and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity
  • Monitor and turn off unnecessary lights outside of school/office hours except for those left on for safety/security reasons
  • Take appropriate measures to ensure the security of the building/premises and assigned keys
  • Maintain floors, walkways, steps, and hallways to a clean, safe, and attractive condition, especially following periods of inclement weather
  • Keep buildings and grounds neat and clean at all times
  • Remove trash and debris from all classrooms, hallways, offices, and other rooms as required
  • Replenish custodial consumables as required
  • Store and dispose of trash and waste materials in compliance with all state/federal laws and district procedures
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties
  • Wear appropriate safety gear, including masks
  • Comply with school district’s chemical right to know program and SDS sheets
  • Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor and other central office administrators designated by the Superintendent

Qualifications:

Prior experience in cleaning and maintenance preferred

Successful completion of all background checks
