Title- Curriculum Implementation Coordinator

Classification- Community Outreach & Environmental Education Specialist 3 (COEES3)

Job Status-Full-Time / Non-Permanent

Appointment Length-8 months – November 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027

WDFW Program- Directors Office – Communications and Public Engagement (CAPE)

Duty Station- Olympia Washington is the current duty station, however, depending on the successful candidate, other duty stations may be considered.

Hybrid/Telework-While this position may offer a telework option, the successful candidate must be available to report to the duty station as needed.

We have a role that’s all about bringing Washington’s wildlife into elementary classrooms. You’d help expand WDFW’s Wild Washington curriculum, work with teachers and school districts across the state, and build partnerships that help educators bring hands-on environmental learning to students. It’s a great mix of education, outreach, and relationship-building.

What to Expect:

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Curriculum Implementation Coordinator will,

Statewide Curriculum Outreach, Promotion, and Adoption:
  • Develop and implement a statewide outreach strategy to increase awareness and adoption of WDFW’s Wild Washington curriculum among elementary schools, school districts, Educational Service Districts (ESDs), tribal education programs, and other educational organizations. Apply project management, communication, engagement, and relationship-building strategies to expand access to and adoption of a vertically aligned environmental education learning program.
  • Build and maintain relationships with school district leaders and locally elected school boards to support local curriculum adoption processes. Provide information, respond to questions, and communicate the educational value and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) alignment of WDFW’s Wild Washington curriculum to support informed adoption decisions.
  • Identify, research, and prioritize opportunities for curriculum integration by analyzing state education initiatives, district instructional priorities, and environmental literacy efforts, resulting in targeted outreach plans.
  • Meet with district curriculum directors, principals, science coordinators, and instructional coaches to demonstrate how WDFW's Wild Washington lesson bundles align across elementary grade levels and support district science, environmental literacy, and outdoor learning goals, resulting in district-level curriculum adoption.
  • Coordinate statewide communications with educators and partners through email, newsletters, social media, and professional networks to promote curriculum resources and implementation opportunities.
Professional Development and Educator Support:
  • Support the design, coordination, and facilitation of professional learning opportunities for teachers, educators, administrators, and other education partners. Apply adult learning principles, resulting in increased educator confidence and effective curriculum implementation.
Partnership Development and Internal Communication:
  • Represent the Department at statewide education conferences, workshops, advisory committees, professional association meetings, and partnership events to promote WDFW conservation education initiatives, and strengthen organizational relationships.
Working Conditions:

Work Setting, including hazards:

Working environment is office setting. Some bending and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

Schedule:

Typically, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but may be expected to adjust the work schedule to meet business needs. Telework options are available.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel is required, primarily local, to meet with educators and to attend or facilitate training. Occasional travel throughout the state may also be required to visit schools and attend events.

Tools and Equipment:

Standard office equipment.

Customer Interactions:

Frequent contact with education professionals, including educators and school administrators.

Qualifications:

Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree involving major study in one of the following:
    • Communications
    • Education
    • Environmental, physical, or natural science
    • A closely related field
  • Three (3) years of professional experience involving one or more of the following:
    • Communications activities
    • Community outreach
    • Environmental analysis or control
    • Environmental education
    • Environmental planning
Certifications/Licenses:

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the required qualifications, our ideal applicant will possess one (1) year of professional experience in one or more of the following:

  • Curriculum development: Creating or substantially revising training or educational materials.
  • Curriculum adoption: Evaluating, selecting, implementing, or adapting existing curriculum.
  • Outreach: developing and implementing an outreach or communication strategy.
  • Training: Designing or delivering structured training to employees, students, teachers, volunteers, or other audiences.
  • Teaching or supporting K-12 students or educators in science, environmental education, or a related field.
  • Developing or delivering education programs aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) or other K-12 science learning standards.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with school districts, schools, educators, community organizations, Tribes, or other external partners.
