Job summary

University of Pennsylvania’s Institute of Contemporary Art invites applications for Assistant Curator, ICA in Philadelphia. The role supports research, planning, and execution of exhibitions, publications, and related public programs, collaborating with curators and cross‑departmental teams.

It includes coordinating catalog workflows, budget tracking, and providing administrative support. The ideal candidate contributes to scholarship, manages editorial tasks, and assists with public programs

Qualifications

• BA in art history, visual culture, humanities, or related field; 1–2 years' experience required.
• MA or equivalent experience preferred.
• Generous, thoughtful, and clear communicator with ability to balance multiple priorities across teams.
• Familiarity with Excel, Word, PowerPoint/Keynote, Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Suite, Google Drive, Outlook beneficial.
• Potential to work nights and/or weekends throughout the year.

Responsibilities

• Research: support research, planning, and realization of exhibitions and public programs.
• Communication: liaise with ICA and university colleagues; disseminate exhibition material.
• Book Production: manage all aspects of book production with editors, designers, and production managers.
• Editorial tasks: proofreading and ensuring accuracy per ICA Style Guide.
• Administration: purchasing agent and fiscal coordinator for Curatorial Department; manage allocations.
• Curatorial Projects: conceptualize and implement exhibitions, projects, and commissions.
• Artist Performances: assist with production management for select events.
