Job summary

HDR is seeking a Cultural Resource Specialist II in the United States-Arizona-Tucson area. You will perform complex archaeological evaluations, supervise staff, and contribute to project management and report writing.

Ideal candidates hold a Master's or Bachelor's in relevant fields, with at least 5 years of cultural resource experience, and a strong command of MS Office and regulatory frameworks including GIS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in cultural resource projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with project compliance activities including consultation, QA and reviews.
  • Willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of field study design, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS.
  • Commitment to employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex assignments, evaluating standard archaeology techniques for projects.
  • Decide on design and scientific procedures; compile survey data, assess, analyze within historic contexts; report writing.
  • Serve as Technical Specialist, Field Supervisor or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed.
  • Supervise a group of professionals and technicians as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Cultural Resource Specialist II, we’ll count on you to:

  • Perform complex assignments, exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard science techniques and procedures for archaeological and historic structure projects
  • Make decisions on significant design and scientific procedures, taking responsibility for survey data compilation, assessment, analysis within historic contexts, historic context development, and report writing
  • Function as Technical Specialist, Field Supervisor or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not sole focus of position
  • Supervise a group of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • MA in Anthropology or Archaeology or related field
  • Current driver’s license with no restrictions on driving
  • Experience with pedestrian survey in southern Arizona
  • Experience working with ADOT and federal agencies
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in cultural resource projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of and experience with project compliance-related activities including consultation, quality assurance and reviews
  • Willingness to work under varied weather conditions
  • Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities
