Job summary

Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) seeks a Cultural Peer Support Specialist to provide drop-in behavioral health and community resource support in Kodiak. You will engage individuals in community settings, incorporate cultural approaches, and model recovery with lived experience.

Responsibilities include education, connecting clients to services, coordinating with BH and Medical staff, and assisting with transitions to community living while fostering wellness and social supports in a tribal

Qualifications

• Lived experience with recovery from mental health and/or substance use issues.
• Strong preference for Peer Support Specialist certification; ability to obtain it within 2 years.
• Completion of an approved program leading to progressive Peer Support Specialist certification.

Responsibilities

• Engage individuals at risk with recovery education and supports; prefer community settings.
• Incorporate cultural activities and humility into practice; model recovery.
• Orient new clients to mental health and medical services as needed.
• Identify client abilities and needs; communicate with providers about treatment needs.
• Facilitate support/self-help groups for mental health or substance use concerns.
