Job summary

Serrato Corporation is seeking an on-call Career Technical Trade Instructor to deliver instruction on an as-needed basis. The role focuses on teaching basic vocational principles, maintaining classroom discipline, and collaborating with academic staff to deliver applied academics.

Responsibilities include preparing lessons, updating student records, supporting resumes, and arranging job-shadowing opportunities with local employers to enhance students’ career readiness and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).
  • Computer literacy with basic functions, email, internet, and basic programs such as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to perform the major duties in the trade of instruction and current knowledge of the subject area.
  • High level of communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • High level of ability to motivate, inspire, and train students effectively.

Job description

Primary Position Objective

This is an on‑call position, distinguished from a CTT Instructor in that the work is on an as‑needed basis. The CTT instructor’s responsibilities include all aspects of instruction and the learning experience of the students, ensuring rigor and relevance of subjects taught and collaborating with academic instructors to deliver applied academics.

Brief Description of Duties
  • Performs on‑call/substitute services as a Career Technical Trade Instructor.
  • Teaches the basic principles and concepts of vocational skills to students.
  • Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom to ensure maximum learning and classroom management.
  • Works with academic instructors to coordinate curriculum development and deliver applied academics.
  • Utilises all available curricular resources at the Center.
  • Ensures adequate classroom preparation.
  • Works toward meeting performance‑management goals established by the company and the National Director of Job Corps via OMS and CTT Report Cards.
  • Provides instruction and remedial training to enable students to overcome barriers to obtaining industry certifications or participating in Advanced Training (AT) or Advanced Career Training (ACT).
  • Maintains proper student folders, recording personal data, test scores, evaluations, attendance, incident reports, achievement awards, and other pertinent student information.
  • Records and forwards daily attendance to the Records Department.
  • Assists with the completion of students’ resumes.
  • Provides contextual learning opportunities to improve academic skills in the CTT learning environment.
  • Works closely with the Center Director’s designee for disability issues to ensure reasonable accommodations or modifications for students with disabilities, as required by the Training Achievement Records (TARs).
  • Teach students the importance of attaining and applying the career‑success and applied‑academic standards listed in each TAR.
  • Updates eTARs weekly to credit student skill attainment.
  • Tailors instructional methods and expected rates of progress to individual students' learning styles, abilities, and career goals.
  • Complies with state regulations related to testing and certification.
  • Intervenes and corrects inappropriate student behaviour and non‑performance.
  • Develops year‑round job‑shadowing opportunities with community, industry, and employers to enhance students’ education and career‑technical skills training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience

Two years of experience in the trade of instruction. One year of teaching experience required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates/Licenses/Registration
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Certified, licensed, or accredited in the state where the Center is located or accredited by a professional trade organization.
  • For NTC, the instructor must be certified by a union or trade organization, or by a national trade certifying organization. The Regional Office may waive this if the Center cannot hire a certified or licensed instructor, but candidates must pursue certification.
