Job description

Valore Health | Salt Lake City, Utah (hybrid; remote considered for exceptional candidates)

Reports to: Sean Brown, Co-Founder, Managing Director & General Counsel

Type:Full-time, co-founding executive | Salary + meaningful founder-level equity

About Valore Health

Community pharmacies are one of the most accessible and trusted points of care in the country. Pharmacists can do much more than fill prescriptions: medication management, adherence support, point-of-care testing, care-gap closure, and clinical encounters under physician oversight. Most pharmacies can't offer these services at scale, and the reason isn't clinical. It's operational.

Identifying eligible patients, documenting care, coordinating with physicians, verifying eligibility, billing across pharmacy (NCPDP) and medical (X12) rails, and reconciling payments is still mostly manual, fragmented, and expensive. As a result, services that patients need and payers will pay for often go undelivered.

Valore is building a continuous-care system that connects pharmacies, physicians, patients, and billing infrastructure. Our platform takes a clinical service from patient-opportunity identification through consent, care delivery, documentation, follow-up, claim, remittance, and revenue distribution to the pharmacy. The aim is for a pharmacy to deliver and get paid for clinical care as reliably as it dispenses a prescription. We are entering the market through independent-pharmacy networks, with distribution reaching thousands of locations.

The Role

We're hiring a co-founding Chief Technology & Product Officer to own what Valore builds and how it gets built. This person will set our build, buy, license, and partner strategy, and then deliver a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform that scales from pilot pharmacies to a national network. Valore has an asset identified.

This is a hands-on executive role. In your first months you'll assess existing healthcare software assets and deal with real code, real claims, and real pharmacies. Later you'll build the team and roadmap that become Valore's core enterprise value.

What You'll Do
Technology strategy and platform decisions
  • Lead technical diligence on candidate platforms, codebases, and transaction infrastructure: architecture, code quality, dependencies, security, scalability, maintainability, and key-person risk.
  • Decide on build vs. buy vs. license, backed by evidence. That includes independently rebuilding and deploying any acquired system in a Valore-controlled environment before we rely on it.
  • Evaluate and manage development partners and vendors, including RFIs, scorecards, scoping, and milestone-based statements of work.
  • Make sure Valore controls its code, data, production environments, domains, and deliverables. Work with General Counsel on IP assignment, open-source governance, and software bills of materials.
Product leadership
  • Own the product vision and roadmap for the modular platform: patient enrollment and scheduling, pharmacist and physician clinical workflows, documentation, care coordination, eligibility, claims, remittance reconciliation, reporting, and analytics.
  • Turn pharmacy operations, physician oversight requirements, and payer rules into product requirements. Work with the President and clinical leaders on feature priorities and pilots.
  • Map end-to-end workflows from claim to cash and systematically remove manual work. Automation and throughput per pharmacy are core product metrics.
  • Design onboarding and integration so participating pharmacies can go live quickly alongside their existing pharmacy management systems.
  • Bring AI into the product responsibly, with human review, for patient identification, documentation support, coding, and denial management.
Engineering and delivery
  • Design and own the architecture: cloud infrastructure, data model, APIs, integrations (pharmacy systems, EHR/HL7/FHIR, clearinghouses, NCPDP and X12 837/835/270/271), and the multi-payer billing engine.
  • Build and lead the engineering, product, and data team. That means hiring, culture, process, and vendor and contractor management.
  • Ship reliable software on a predictable cadence, with clear service levels for participating pharmacies and partners.
  • Make sure every encounter can be traced and audited from consent through claim, payment, and distribution to the pharmacy, including denials and appeals.
Security, compliance, and data
  • Own the HIPAA security program: BAAs in practice, access controls, encryption, logging, vendor risk, incident response, and readiness for SOC 2 / HITRUST.
  • Partner with General Counsel on data rights, privacy, payer and regulatory requirements, and contract technical schedules.
  • Build the data foundation for outcomes measurement, payer reporting, and unit economics.
Executive leadership
  • Serve on the executive team with the Managing Director/General Counsel, CEO, and CFO. Contribute to company strategy, budget, and hiring plans.
  • Represent Valore's technology to investors, strategic partners, pharmacy networks, and payers, including in diligence.
  • Work within the scope and budget set by the MD, and report progress against milestones the board and investors can track.
First 12 Months
  • 0-90 days: Finish the technical assessment of existing platform options. Deliver an evidence-based build/buy/license recommendation, a target architecture, a security baseline, and a phased development plan with a budget.
  • 3-6 months: Stand up a Valore-controlled production environment. Launch the MVP with pilot pharmacies. Run real encounters end to end from patient opportunity to remittance and pharmacy payout.
  • 6-12 months: Scale across network pharmacies. Measurably reduce manual work per encounter. Expand payer and service coverage. Hire the core team. Be ready for SOC 2.
What We're Looking For
Required
  • 10+ years building and shipping software products, including 4+ years leading engineering and/or product teams, ideally as CTO, CPO, or VP of Engineering/Product at an early-stage or growth-stage company.
  • Deep healthcare technology experience, especially in pharmacy, revenue cycle / claims, or clinical workflow systems.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare transactions and interoperability: NCPDP, X12 (837/835/270/271), HL7/FHIR, clearinghouses, and eligibility and benefits verification.
  • Experience building HIPAA-compliant, cloud-native systems that handle PHI at scale.
  • Technical diligence experience. You can read an unfamiliar codebase, judge whether it can be maintained and scaled, and give a clear recommendation.
  • An owner's mindset. You're comfortable being hands-on early, working with contractors and partners, and making decisions with incomplete information.
  • Clear communication with clinicians, pharmacists, investors, lawyers, and engineers.
Preferred
  • Experience with community or independent pharmacy operations, pharmacy management systems, MTM, CMM, or pharmacist clinical services.
  • Experience with physician-oversight or collaborative-practice models and multi-payer billing (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, employer).
  • A track record of applying AI/ML in regulated healthcare workflows, with appropriate human-in-the-loop controls.
  • Experience with M&A integration, carve-outs, or platform migrations.
  • Experience taking a company through SOC 2 or HITRUST certification.
  • Prior startup equity or founding-team experience.
Why Valore
  • Co-Founding role: You'll shape the product, the architecture, and the company, with founder-level equity to match.
  • Real distribution: We're launching through independent-pharmacy networks, not trying to sell one pharmacy at a time.
  • Meaningful problem: Pharmacists are well placed to close care gaps. Fixing the infrastructure behind their services improves patient access and helps pharmacy economics.
  • Experienced team: You'll work with leaders in healthcare, corporate and transactional law, and finance, supported by top-tier outside counsel.
