Job summary

Newark Board of Education seeks a Supervisor, Career and Technical Education to lead district CTE initiatives, develop rigorous curricula, and supervise instructional staff. Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • NJ DOE Principal Standard license (Preferred) and/or Supervisor Standard license.
  • NJ DOE School Administrator Certificate (Preferred).
  • NJ DOE Teacher Certification.
  • Minimum of three years of admin experience.
  • Minimum of four years of teaching Career & Technical Education.
  • Knowledge of NJ Student Learning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods.
  • Ability to plan, organize and administer a District-level professional development program.
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Responsibilities

  • Observe, coach, and evaluate teachers and department chairs, providing ongoing professional development for targeted improvement.
  • Provide constructive feedback to principals, vice principals, and department chairs on effective facilitation of learning, planning, assessment, rigor, and student engagement aligned to NJ Career & Technical Education Standards.
  • Monitor all Teach NJ Educator Effectiveness activities, observations, and evaluations of teachers and department chairs.
  • Assume orientation and mentor responsibilities for novice department chairs and mentors for novice CTE teachers.
  • Leverage school-based CTE program leads, teacher coaches, and academic interventionists to maximize implementation of District-approved CTE curricular guides and intervention strategies through monthly and quarterly professional development opportunities.
  • Synthesize all CTE achievement quarterly reports and provide comprehensive reviews and presentations at various forums throughout the school year.
  • Lead in the area of CTE education; author, update, and furnish rigorous CTE curriculum guides, units of study, bridge manuals, and technological resources.
  • Support the district’s textbook adoption committee and process, ensuring all curricular resources and supplements are fully vetted for state standards and diverse needs.
  • Assist in developing a comprehensive strategy to guarantee accurate inventory and timely distribution of all curricular resources.
  • Assist in developing all CTE diagnostics, interim assessments, district assessments, mid-term and final exams.
  • Collaborate with supervisors of bilingual, ESL, and special education to tailor curriculum guides, units of study, resources, and assessments for all learners.
  • Collaborate with district directors and supervisors to align curriculum guides, units of study, resources, and assessments to state standards and to create interdisciplinary opportunities.
  • Support schools in developing new CTE programs and expanding existing programs.
  • Support HRS in determining teacher certification requirements based on CTE program specifications.
  • Establish and execute organizational systems and strategies to monitor department chairs, teacher coaches, and district goals.
  • Develop and monitor strategies for high-level collaboration among faculty and staff.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain a positive disposition to promote student achievement, staff professional development, and district-wide success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Director or Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.
