Position Summary
Performs quality, diagnostic Computed Tomography and X‑ray examinations and assists the radiologist with procedures.

Reporting
Reports directly to the CT/X‑ray Supervisor and indirectly to the CT/XR Charge Technologist.

Typical Physical Demands
Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination for operation of department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Assists patients and positions them appropriately for equipment operation. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 vision to operate equipment and review images.
Typical Working Conditions
Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for procedures, including taking a medical history and answering exam questions.
- Perform CT, X‑ray and fluoroscopic examinations and procedures.
- Perform required Quality Assurance procedures and checks when assigned.
- Execute all necessary clerical duties in the department.
- Ensure radiation protection for patients and personnel in the department.
- Maintain patient care and safety during examinations.
- Prepare all contrast media and essential supplies as needed.
- Perform IV insertion for intravenous contrast injections.
- Clean and maintain equipment in the department.
- Stock exam rooms with necessary supplies.
- Comply with company and department policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Complete RIS and PACS tasks.
- Coordinate with schedulers to facilitate exam scheduling and paperwork preparation.
- Assist in obtaining prior images for comparison.
- Participate in staff development and educational activities, including attendance at required meetings and committee participation as requested.
- Maintain required credentials and licensing.
- Adhere to the ARRT's Standard of Ethics.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Performance Requirements)
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to determine appropriate examination area.
- Knowledge of all CT and X‑ray procedures.
- Knowledge of radiologic equipment and testing.
- Ability to acquire working knowledge of RIS system, EPIC EMR, PowerShare, and PACS (McKesson).
- Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology, including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement.
- Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging.
- Skill in troubleshooting equipment operation and performing simple adjustments.
- Skill in establishing effective working relationships with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems using good judgment.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited radiologic technology program.
Experience
One year of experience preferred or recommendation from training program.
Certificate / License
- Current Radiography (R) certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Current Computed Tomography (CT) certification preferred or mandatory to obtain CT credential within one year of hire.
- Current license with the New Mexico Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Program.
- Current CPR certification or obtained within three months of hire.
