Job summary

CHI Health Mercy in Council Bluffs seeks a CT Technologist to capture precise diagnostic images and support radiologists in complex cases. You will interact compassionately with patients, position them correctly, and ensure clear results to guide care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technology program at hire.
  • Basic Life Support – CPR on hire.
  • Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT at hire.
  • Medical Radiographer licensure IA on hire.
  • Registered Technologist Computed Tomography within 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Capture accurate diagnostic images to aid radiologists in diagnosis.
  • Interact compassionately with patients to ensure a positive imaging experience.
  • Assist interventional procedures while maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Set up equipment, verify protocol factors, and follow radiation safety standards.
  • Record history, perform image quality checks, and report issues to supervisor.
  • Participate in quality improvement, accreditation, and regulatory compliance.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our CT Technologist, you will utilize your expertise to capture precise diagnostic images, enabling our radiologists to accurately diagnose and/or rule out diverse medical conditions. You will create detailed cross‑sectional images of the skeleton, tissues, and internal organs, and interact compassionately with patients to foster a positive experience throughout the imaging process. You will demonstrate a deep understanding of diagnostic imaging workflow, patient positioning techniques, and the ability to consistently capture clear results that guide effective patient care.

  • Proper assessment of the patient and their ability to participate, explaining the procedure duration and expectations, verifying informed consent, and assisting physicians with interventional procedures such as needle localization, aspiration, biopsies, and other invasive procedures while practicing aseptic and sterile techniques and observing universal precautions.
  • Selection of proper equipment, setting correct technical factors, procedure protocols, and gathering supplies prior to performance. Recognizes all radiation safety standards including Image Gently, Image Wisely, and MR safety standards; follows all rules around radiation protection including wearing lead protection when using fluoroscopy or when there is a possibility of exposure.
  • Obtain a clear and complete history from the patient and record data into the patient record to assist in image interpretation and future encounters.
  • Perform quality assessment of images, evaluate equipment issues, and report findings to supervisor, manager, or director.
  • Ensure all equipment is in working order at the beginning of the day and prior to starting a procedure, perform required performance and quality tests such as ACR quality requirements, check supplies for outdating, and report shortages or failures to supervisor, manager, or director. Use CHI incident reporting system for patient injuries, equipment failures, medication reactions, or personal exposure.
  • Participate in quality‑improvement projects, ACR accreditation, radiation safety, ALARA, MQSA, and state regulations; be familiar with CMS and Joint Commission requirements and discuss department processes related to quality and environmental care.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technology program upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support – CPR upon hire.
  • Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT upon hire.
  • Medical Radiographer: IA upon hire.
  • Registered Technologist Computed Tomography within 24 months.

Pay Range

$29.36 – $43.68 per hour
