Job summary

UofL Health is seeking a CT Technologist to perform CT scans, maintain safety, and assist radiologists with complex examinations in a busy hospital setting.

Responsibilities include preparing contrast media, educating patients, and ensuring accurate documentation and image quality. The ideal candidate has ARRT certification and a JRC-approved radiologic tech program, with CT certification preferred within one year.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a JRC approved Radiologic Technology program.
  • Current ARRT registration is required.
  • KY Radiation Operators certification is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • CT certification is preferred at hire but must be obtained within 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CT scans per established protocols with accurate positioning.
  • Ensure radiation safety practices and pregnancy status checks.
  • Assist radiologists with advanced CT procedures and contrast administration.
  • Educate patients pre- and post-exam as appropriate.
  • Maintain equipment and documentation, including exam logs and logs in PACS.

Job Description Summary:

Job Description:

The CT Technologists performs CT scans according to established protocols. The CT Technologists demonstrates an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. The CT Technologists maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. The CT Technologists maintains knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations. The CT Technologists prepares for and assist the radiologist with intricate CT examinations including a range of tissue biopsies and fluid drainages. The CT Technologist will prepare and administer contrast media in accordance with hospital policy and procedure as well as state and federal regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification.
  • Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure.
  • Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed.
  • Produces CT scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Evaluates finished images/series for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality.
  • Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include use of correct FOV, lead shields as appropriate, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years.
  • Performs venipuncture and contrast injections in accordance with department and hospital guidelines.
  • Ensures examinations are complete to include and exam logged in computer system.
  • Instructs Radiologic Technology students in the CT Scan positioning and technique.
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services.
  • Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures.
  • Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities.
  • Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure that customer expectations are met including flexibility in scheduled hours.
  • Assist in quality improvement programs in the department.
  • Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital.
  • Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
