Job summary

Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital is searching for a Radiologic Technologist to ensure patient safety and produce high-quality diagnostic images. This casual position includes Saturday shifts and opportunities for additional hours at multiple locations.

Applicants should have an accredited Radiology Technologist Program graduation, ARRT Computed Tomography certification, IEMA accreditation, and BLS certification. A commitment to patient care and adherence to safety standards is essential.

Job description

Salary range: $38.20 – $49.66 hourly. Placement within the salary range depends on relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement follows the collective bargaining agreement.

Work Schedule

This is a casual (non‑benefited) position. The schedule is every other Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with opportunities to pick up additional shifts at Gurnee, Vernon Hills and Glenview locations.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post‑procedure care.
  • Produce diagnostic‑quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.
  • Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
  • Review images prior to exam completion and initiate corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
  • Administer contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
  • Operate imaging equipment and maintain imaging room readiness.
  • Identify equipment performance issues and initiate follow‑up through established service processes.
  • Coordinate exam flow and prioritize time‑sensitive studies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record and image archive system, including exam set‑up, image routing, result availability, and charging accuracy.
  • Adhere to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Consistently uphold all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, and infection prevention measures (as applicable) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members.
  • Ensure a positive patient experience throughout care delivery.
  • Support department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, and growth.
  • Support additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs.
  • Verify orders and confirm protocol.
  • Position and immobilize patients on the examining table.
  • Select anatomic and technical parameters accurately and apply ALARA principles during examinations.
  • Assure patient, staff, and personal safety by adhering to established standards, including positively confirming Right Patient and Right Exam.
  • Establish IV access for contrast administration and related lab draws.
  • Administer contrast media orally and/or IV in accordance with department policies and procedures, patient history indicators, exam protocols and physician orders, and follow through with post‑exam instructions.
  • Prepare for and assist the physician in computed tomography procedures, including interventional procedures.
  • Enter data such as type of scan, slice thickness, scan time, and other technical data into the computer.
  • Communicate with patients before and during the procedure; monitor safety and comfort.
  • Validate that all required series, images, protocols and reconstructions are complete and meet established image quality standards.
  • Ensure complete study transfer to PACS for radiologist interpretation.
  • Perform CT equipment QA and maintain required logs.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as receiving orders, scheduling patients, and recordkeeping.
  • Maintain and clean work area and equipment; replenish supplies as needed.
Qualifications – Required
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Computed Tomography certification.
  • Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) accreditation.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience.
