Job summary

UMass Memorial Health invites applications for a CT Scan Technologist role within the Radiology department. This position delivers direct patient care during CT examinations, under Radiologist direction, and includes responsibilities for documentation, quality control, and scheduling.

Ideal candidates are graduates of an accredited radiology program, ARRT/NMTCB certified in CT, and Massachusetts licensed, with strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Properly performs all CT scan examinations appropriate to patient age in inpatient/outpatient settings.
  • Gathers pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
  • Completes all records, paperwork and billings promptly.
  • Positions and transfers patients and assists physicians with interventional exams.
  • Sends exams to PACS for physician review and performs QC on images.
  • Maintains inventory and assists with procurement of supplies.
  • Performs other related duties including urgent exam requests and scheduling.
  • Performs CT exams using contrast media under radiologist/ER physician direction.
  • Establishes IV access for contrast injection per policy.
  • Travels between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton to provide support as scheduled.
  • Float requirements apply to Nashoba Valley staff.

Under the supervision of the Senior CT Scan Technologist and department leadership, provides direct patient care services and other related functions in support of the department. Performs independently within scope of department policies. Clinically works at the direction of a qualified Radiologist.

Major Responsibilities
  • 1. Properly performs all CT scan examinations appropriate to the age of the patient in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, consistent with departmental and professional standards and protocols.
  • 2. Gathers pertinent clinical data and maintains accurate patient records.
  • 3. Accurately completes all records, paperwork and billings and submits promptly.
  • 4. Positions and transfers patients appropriately and assists physicians with interventional exams.
  • 5. Promptly and properly completes exams, performs QC on images and appropriately sends exams to PACS for the physicians to review.
  • 6. Assists in maintaining an orderly inventory and in arranging the purchase of needed supplies.
  • 7. Assists with other job-related duties including urgent exam requests and scheduling.
  • 8. Under the direction of a Radiologist or Emergency Room Physician, performs CT exams using contrast media according to department policy and procedures.
  • 9. Will establish IV access for contrast injection according to department policy and procedure.
  • 10. Travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton as scheduled to provide operational, administrative, or departmental support.
  • 11.The float requirements only apply to UMass Memorial Nashoba Valley's newly hired staff

Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education: Required:

  • 1. Graduate of an accredited radiological program.
  • 2. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or NMTCB certified in diagnostic CT.
  • 3. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Preferred:

  • Experience/Skills: Required:
  • 1. Demonstrated ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to product optimum results.
  • 2. Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families.

Preferred: Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
