Job summary

Duke University Health System is seeking an experienced or new graduate CT Technologist to join our imaging team. You will work across inpatient and emergency populations, supporting a broad range of CT services and teaching students, with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Graduate or completion of program that meets eligibility for registry/certification.
  • ARRT registered and able to obtain CT certification within 18 months of employment.
  • Two years' CT technologist experience (Level II) or four years' experience (Level III).
  • Certification in Radiography or CNMT/NMT/CT as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CT scanners and related equipment following radiation safety procedures.
  • Position patients and assist radiologists with imaging procedures.
  • Perform exams per established protocols and QA standards.
  • Assist with IV placement, contrast administration, and interventional CT when needed.
  • Coordinate scheduling and patient flow; document procedures in EHR.

Duke University Health System is seeking an experienced or new graduate CT Technologist to join one of the most comprehensive and advanced imaging programs in the region while embracing our mission of Advancing Health Together.

At Duke University Hospital, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a collaborative team of more than 60 full-time CT Technologists supporting a wide range of specialized services, including Trauma, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Cardiac, Oncology, Transplant, Interventional Radiology, Surgical Services, and Urgent Outpatient Care.

Our CT department operates 20 state-of-the-art scanners across the health system, including 14 fixed clinical scanners, 5 intraoperative scanners, and 1 portable scanner dedicated to the Neuro ICU. This position will primarily support our Inpatient and Emergency patient populations and provide imaging services in our Main Hospital as well as the Duke Medicine Pavilion.

What you will do:

  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners, power injectors, and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures.
  • Position patients for CT scans using patient positioning devices and protective equipment as necessary.
  • Perform exams accurately per established protocols, policy, and patient safety standards.
  • Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
  • Assist radiologist with interventional CT procedures.
  • Evaluate CT scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to Image Archival System.
  • Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
  • Charge procedures and supplies in EHR.
  • Dispense and or order oral contrast to patients for CT scans.
  • Provide orientation and training to new CT technologists.
  • Provide care for the psychological and physical needs of patients and their families for CT scans.
  • Provide education and training to student technologists.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.
  • Coordinate scheduling and patient flow
  • Demonstrate proficiency in IV placement for contrast administration.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and accuracy in performance of all exam protocols.
  • Assist with the education and training of new physicians (interns, residents, fellows, and attendings). If applicable.
  • Assist radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and CT imaging techniques that are unique to facility.
  • Perform CT specific technical assistance with projects assigned by supervisor including but not limited to: Team lead, R & D, protocol development, charge reconciliation and demonstration of equipment.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate or completion of program that meets eligibility requirements for registry/certification or currently holds required registry or certification.

Experience:

Level I

  • Must be ARRT registered and further able obtain CT certification within 18 months of employment.

Level II

  • Minimum of two years' experience as a CT technologist.

Level III

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience within specialty modality in which they are seeking promotion

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

  • Certification in one of the following required: Radiography (R), Radiation Therapy (T), Nuclear Medicine Technology (N), CNMT.
  • Registered in Computed Tomography (CT) required within 18 months of employment.
  • BLS certification.
