Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a CT Technologist to join our Radiology team. This role supports imaging exams, adheres to safety protocols, and maintains high-quality CT studies while prioritizing patient care during night shifts from 7pm to 7:30am (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday), totaling 36 hours per week.

The technician will operate CT equipment, administer contrast, and maintain documentation, collaborating with radiologists to enable accurate diagnoses.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program.
• Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Accreditation.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain patient safety throughout the imaging process.
• Produce diagnostic-quality CT images using approved protocols.
• Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality.
• Review images prior to exam completion and initiate corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
• Administer contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring.
• Operate imaging equipment and maintain imaging room readiness.
• Identify equipment performance issues and initiate follow-up through established service processes.
• Coordinate exam flow and prioritize time-sensitive studies.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam setup, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.
• Adhere to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
• Uphold quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging (radiation, MRI safety, infection prevention).
• Ensure a positive patient experience throughout care delivery.
• Support department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth.
• Support additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs.
• Verify orders and confirm protocol.
• Position and immobilize patient on examining table.
• Position patients and select parameters, applying ALARA principles.
• Ensure Right Patient and Right Exam safety checks.
• Establish IV access for contrast administration and related lab draws.
• Administer contrast media orally/IV per policies and physician orders.
• Prepare for and assist physician in CT procedures, including interventional procedures.
• Enter scan type, slice thickness, scan time and other data into system.
• Communicate with patient before and during procedure; monitor safety and comfort.
• Validate complete study transfer to PACS for radiologist interpretation.
• Perform CT equipment QA and maintain logs.
• Perform clerical tasks such as receiving orders and scheduling patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.


• Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.


• Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.


• Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).


• Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.


• Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.


• Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.


• Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set‑up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.


• Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.


• Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, Infection prevention measures safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members

• Verifies orders and confirms protocol.


• Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table.


• Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately and uses ALARA principles during examinations.


• Assures patient, staff and personal safety by adhering to established standards including positively confirming Right Patient and Right Exam.


• Establishes IV access for contrast administration and related lab draws.


• Administers contrast media oral and/or IV contrast in accordance with department policies and procedures, patient history indicators, exam protocols and physician orders and follows through with post exam instructions.


• Prepares for and assists the physician in computed tomography procedures, including interventional procedures.


• Enters data such as type of scan, slice thickness, scan time and other technical data into computer.


• Communicates with patient before and during procedure; monitors safety, comfort.


• Validates that all required series, images, protocols and reconstructions are complete and meet established image quality standards.


• Assures complete study transfer to PACS for radiologist interpretation.


• Performs CT equipment QA and maintains required logs.


• Performs clerical tasks such as receiving orders, scheduling patients, and recordkeeping.


• Maintains and cleans work area and equipment; replenishes supplies as needed

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program

Licensure:

• Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Accreditation

Certification:

• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred:

• 1 year experience


• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Computed Tomography (CT)
