GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs computerized tomographic (CT) radiological procedures on patients. May also perform general diagnostic radiology examinations. Performs related duties as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares them for the procedure.
- Reviews clinical data on requisitions, performs appropriate examinations, and gathers additional medical history as needed. Prepares the procedure room and replenishes supplies.
- Analyzes patient anatomy, sets up equipment, and performs CT scans.
- Manually controls equipment to obtain diagnostic images.
- Administers intravenous contrast media, including the use of power injectors.
- Assists radiologists with complex sterile procedures such as biopsies.
- Follows radiation safety principles, including shielding and dose reduction techniques.
- Ensures high-quality images are delivered into PACS, resolves image exceptions, and confirms image counts.
- Completes study documentation in RIS, including start and end times and study completion.
- Reviews protocols with radiologists and adheres to team standards of excellence, including communication and professionalism.
- Documents all procedures in medical records and billing systems.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and certified in Computed Tomography (CT), or eligible with certification within 12 months of hire.
- Maintains required continuing education hours.
- Healthcare Provider certification (BCLS) required.
