Job summary

Beacon Health System is hiring a PRN day CT Technologist in the CT Department at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.

The CT Technologist will perform CT scans, follow radiologist-directed protocols, and ensure patient safety and comfort while handling contrast administration and documentation in the PACS/RIS systems. You will report to the Coordinator/Director and support department efficiency.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an approved school of radiology technology with ARRT registry.
• Certification by the Indiana State Board of Health.
• Three months of on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Performs CT scans of all body parts following established protocols.
• Obtains relevant clinical history to support accurate interpretation by the radiologist.
• Communicates with referring physicians and healthcare staff; relays reports as needed.
• Explains CT procedures to patients and families.
• Follows sterile and isolation techniques to prevent contamination.
• Administers IV contrast, reviews allergy history, monitors patient condition, and escalates concerns as needed.
• Performs CPR and other emergency support procedures when required.
• Assists physicians with biopsies and drainage procedures.
• Completes documentation and uploads scans into the PACS system.
• Operates CT equipment and transmits images.
• Tracks exams using the RIS.
• Performs equipment startup/shutdown, reports malfunctions, and maintains cleanliness of equipment.
• Completes additional duties and projects to support department effectiveness.

What You’ll Do

As a CT Technologist, you will report to the Coordinator/Director. Performs computerized tomography (CT) scans and procedures that require independent judgment and a high degree of precision and skill in the application of high technology computerized CT equipment. You will follow protocols and procedures as directed by the radiologist and/or supervising technologist.

CT Technologist Job Responsibilities

• Performs CT scans of all body parts following established protocols, policies, and procedures
• Obtains relevant clinical history to support accurate interpretation by the radiologist

• Explains CT procedures to patients and families
• Follows sterile and isolation techniques to prevent contamination
• Administers IV contrast, reviews allergy history, monitors patient condition, and escalates concerns as needed
• Performs CPR and other emergency support procedures when required
• Assists physicians with biopsies and drainage procedures
• Completes documentation and uploads scans into the PACS system
• Operates CT equipment and transmits images (e.g., to Nighthawk)
• Tracks exams using the Radiology Information System (RIS)
• Performs equipment startup/shutdown, reports malfunctions, and maintains cleanliness of equipment
• Completes additional duties and projects to support department effectiveness and maintain professional competence

What You Bring

As a CT Technologist, it requires knowledge of radiation-emitting equipment and demonstrates the ability to properly position patients for all examinations. You must possess strong communication skills to effectively understand and follow written and verbal instructions. You will maintain an interest in scientific, technical, and computer-based knowledge to master CT imaging protocols while minimizing patient exposure. Also demonstrates the computer proficiency needed to accurately maintain patient records.

Required Qualifications

• The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through graduation from an approved school of radiology technology with registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART), certification by the Indiana State Board of Health and three months of on-the-job training.
