Job description

CT Technologist Casual (Finance)

Primary Function

  1. This position is responsible for performing Computerized Tomography (CT) imaging studies while providing a quality healthcare service that includes total patient care in a comfortable, friendly environment. Excellent communication skills are essential to this position due to required continuous interaction with public and professional/medical personnel.
  2. Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of Nemours.
  3. The CT Technologist is essential personnel for the hospital; therefore, technologist will make every attempt possible to report for work in the event of inclement weather or for a code delta event requiring extra resources.

Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for working knowledge and operation of Siemens SOMATOM Dual Energy Flash, Siemens Edge, GE VCT Lightspeed, and post processing workstations.
  2. Knowledge of routine computerized tomography imaging protocols along with performing patient examinations by protocol by designated radiologist.
  3. Provides accurate room preparation and instructions to patient/family according to the procedure and physically prepares the patient for examination which includes explaining the imaging procedure and answers pertinent procedural questions.
  4. Responsible for the preparation, administration, and documentation of contrast media per departmental protocols under the direct supervision of a radiologist/physician. Observes patient for allergic reaction after administration of contrast.
  5. Responsible for screening of patients to be imaged for contraindications that may be hazardous to their health or to the safety of others.
  6. Assists radiologists by evaluating patients and obtaining written screening for administration of contrast media. Start IV's and inject contrast material for imaging studies.
  7. Maintains work habits consistent with hospital and department policies, reports unsafe conditions and incidents to the immediate supervisor, and demonstrates safe work habits. Operates hospital computer systems for patient data entry and retrieval/order entry and completion of study.
  8. Determine proper radiation exposure factors for CT to minimize patient dose according to protocols set by the radiologist. Ensure proper function of equipment by proper usage and maintenance.
  9. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care with respect to the appropriate specific chronological age, development age, or social maturity of the patient.
  10. Must have the ability to work well with others and have good communication skills. Aids in the training of new personnel, students, and physicians.
  11. Regular attendance is required, and this position is considered essential for staffing during severe weather emergencies and other natural disasters.
  12. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, have reliable transportation, and be available on an on-call basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • DE State License within 90 days of employment
  • ARRT/Radiographer certification within 1 year of employment
  • ARRT/CT board certification within 18 months of employment
  • CPR certification required or obtained within the first 90 days of hire
