Job summary

WVU Medicine in Morgantown seeks a Radiologic Technologist specializing in CT imaging. You will perform diagnostic CT procedures, prep rooms, and ensure patient safety. You will rotate through radiology duties as assigned.

Candidates should have a medical imaging program graduate, ARRT or NMTCB certification within 6 months, and appropriate state radiography licenses. Preference for one year CT experience. Emphasis on quality imaging and patient care across age groups.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
• Certification required within 6 months of hire (ARRT or NMTCB).
• Current or temporary Radiography license as required by the state.
• WV license OR Nuclear Medicine/CT license for WV.
• Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• State and federal background checks as required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares room, equipment and supplies for patient exams with sterile technique.
• Performs exams per physician orders and explains procedures to patients.
• Documents variations from protocol and relays data to Radiologist.
• Observes patients and equipment and assists with transport as needed.
• Maintains stock, labels films correctly and follows infection control.
• Maintains safe radiation exposure and general safety for all persons.
• Performs diagnostic CT studies and, if needed, mobile radiography in emergencies.
• Provides care to neonatal through geriatric patients; may insert IVs.
• Administers IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging as ordered.

Job description

Performs diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose. Rotates through diagnostic radiology as assigned. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
• Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) within 6 months of hire.
• Must possess current or temporary Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided

MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians

OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology

PA: No state license is required

WV: Radiography License OR Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.

• Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

Experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepares room, equipment, materials, as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique. Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
• Performs examinations per Physician’s orders and explains procedures to the patients. Documents any variations from protocol due to patient’s condition or other unknown cause and relays patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
• Observes patient and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes. Transports and assists patients as needed.
• Documents status of patient in reference to radiology/CT procedure on patient’s chart.
• Documents variances repeats and other such occurrences to help maintain high quality health care and opportunity for quality improvement.
• Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, responsible for proper film labeling and following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
• Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patient’s, visitors, and staff at all times.
• Complies with policy and procedures for the departmental and hospital wide programs. Participates in the patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/ healthcare errors and abuse.
• Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology. Performs critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
• If applicable, performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by physician. Performs diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
• Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
• Administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radi
