Job summary

Signature Healthcare's Brockton Hospital seeks a CT Technologist to perform CT examinations across age groups with emphasis on patient safety and quality imaging. You will follow imaging protocols, maintain patient privacy, and support department operations in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate is ARRT CT registered, holds a MA license, and has CE credits. Siemens experience is preferred, and training will be provided to integrate with the LEAN workflow and PACS/RIS systems.

Qualifications

  • Formal Radiologic technology program completed in an AMA-approved school.
  • ARRT CT registration and MA state licensure with CE evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CT examinations on patients from newborn to geriatric with appropriate protocols.
  • Communicate calmly and professionally with patients and colleagues.
  • Identify and prepare patients, answer questions, and refer to the appropriate personnel.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and privacy standards; ensure patient information is protected.
  • Apply ALARA principles to dose reduction and patient safety.
  • Train new staff on CT scanner operations and related equipment.
  • Maintain and monitor CT equipment; coordinate with maintenance teams as needed.

CT Technologist Roles And Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates competency in performing CT examinations on all ages of patients from newborn to geriatric. Ensures the use of adult/pediatric protocols on all exams.
  • Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately and professionally with all types of patients as well as associates.
  • Reviews radiology imaging requisition for required information to perform examinations. Calls appropriate personnel to review discrepancies.
  • Properly identifies and prepares patients for examinations, answers questions and/or refers to other appropriate personnel.
  • Follows HIPAA standards to maintain patient privacy and disclosure of protected patient information.
  • Relies on knowledge of anatomy, physiology and effects of disease processes to properly and safely scan the patient to obtain high quality images.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of proper shielding and radiation protection for all patients. Ensure that all patients of childbearing age are questioned accordingly and shielded if necessary. Documents the same.
  • May be called upon to suggest alternate more appropriate exams where radiation exposure can be reduced or eliminated.
  • Applies ALARA principles to patient, self and other associates.
  • Understands the Image Wisely and Image Gently programs and the importance of dose reduction opportunities for all patients. Includes the need to adjust protocols to fit individual patient criteria.
  • Obtains quality diagnostic images after appropriate orientation on the department CT scanners.
  • Possesses and utilizes proper aseptic technique, universal protocol and Standard Precautions as needed.
  • Demonstrates competency in preparing and administering oral and IV contrast media.
  • Understands all policies related to administering IV contrast including contrast screening sheet, hydration protocols, treatment of extravasation, medication reconciliation, and premedication.
  • Participates in the training of new personnel in the operation of the CT scanner and other necessary related equipment.
  • Maintains equipment in good working order through monitoring of preventative maintenance plan. After CT Supervisor approval, contacts repair service as necessary.
  • Follows all PACS workflow procedures for quality, proper identification and completeness of examination requested.
  • Demonstrates competency in all RIS applications. Especially pertaining to patient exam status, exam tracking and "taken" lists. Edit any/all examinations in RIS prior to radiologist dictation.
  • Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift utilizing LEAN methodology.
  • Assists in maintaining dept. inventory to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Restocks un-used supplies to proper storage location after each examination. Utilizes and maintains the kanban system.
  • Actively participates in daily huddles and problem solving.
  • Attends CT and Imaging department staff meetings and in service education programs.
  • Updates patients and families on estimated wait times in the CT Department. Remains visible and proactive in meeting patient's needs.
  • Performs personal care for patients as needed.
  • Assists patients to bathroom (ambulatory, with cane, crutches, or walker). Assists patients to dress or undress as indicated.
  • Contributes to other areas in the department and hospital as requested. Shows ability to prioritize duties.
  • Adjusts and revises workload as necessary in view of stat orders, emergencies, outpatients, walk-ins and fluctuations in patient workload.
  • Competent in IV venipuncture after completing IV venipuncture training.
  • Willing to train in point-of-care phlebotomy.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
