Job description

Job Summary

The CT Technologist, supervised by a Radiologist, performs CT procedures on patients. These procedures are requested by a physician or licensed provider to diagnose disease and injury, following established protocols.

Essential Functions of the Role
  • Performs high‑quality CT procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner, maintaining production and quality by following established standards and procedures.
  • Demonstrates understanding of radiation dose reference levels and monitoring; takes action if the estimated dose exceeds set reference levels or is exceeded, potentially including patient follow‑up.
  • Utilizes iSTAT point‑of‑care testing for obtaining creatinine levels.
  • Applies AIDET to communicate with patients, identifies patient service needs, ensures the correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establishes rapport with patients and their families.
  • Prepares the patient and area for the procedure, positions the patient, adjusts immobilization devices, moves equipment into position, and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Protects patients and employees by following safety, infection‑control, drug, and radiation policies, protocols, and techniques; uses proper sterile techniques for invasive procedures and maintains hand hygiene.
  • Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards; works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment operation.
  • Reports issues to management or the appropriate department, assists in maintaining supplies inventory, and ensures people are safe to enter by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
  • Obtains, verifies, and maintains all relevant documentation, including requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status, shielding precautions, consent forms, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains medical imaging records in the appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.

  • Ensures customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service; reviews patient satisfaction scores and develops action plans when needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge, education, and skills for appropriate care of a broad patient population.
  • Serves as a preceptor by providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
  • Is able to take call, if required.

Certification / License / Registration

Education: Graduate of an accredited program

Experience: Less than 1 year

BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire/transfer

Must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Computed Tomography (CT)

Must also be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography (R) or Nuclear Medicine (N). Alternatively, certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Tech (CNMT) is required.

Licensed by State of TX Medical Board as Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)
