Job summary

Advocate HealthCare in Wisconsin seeks a CT Technologist to perform diagnostic CT procedures and support advanced imaging. You will obtain patient histories, verify orders, position patients, administer contrast as directed, and ensure safety protocols are followed.

You will post-process images, label studies, enter data into the RIS, and collaborate with radiologists and staff to maintain quality and deliver accurate charges. Prior experience and strong communication are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CT equipment for basic to advanced diagnostic procedures, including CT-guided and other complex studies.
  • Obtain medical history and verify requisitions against orders for exam accuracy.
  • Position patients, adjust scanning factors, ensure radiation safety per regulations.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media under Radiologist supervision.
  • Post-process images and label images with patient identifiers and location.
  • Enter study data into radiology information system and document billing codes.
  • Identify equipment issues and perform QA tests; report malfunctions.
  • Serve as a resource and preceptor for staff and students.
  • Collaborate with departments to educate on imaging processes and post-procedure care.
  • Assist in patient positioning and transport; use proper lifting techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific patient care and growth/development considerations.

Job description

Major Responsibilities:


  • Proficiently operates CT equipment to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures. Must perform and be proficient with all of the following procedures if performed at assigned facility which include scrub CT guided invasive procedures, angiography, cardiac, cyber-knife, venography, cerebral, PET/CT, and 3D reformatting including cardiac, vascular and neurological.

  • Obtains medical history from patients and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.

  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides radiation protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.

  • Prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist, and assists in the proper scanning techniques. Provides measurements and additional slices for accurate interpretation with direction from the Radiologist.

  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.

  • Maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.

  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures. Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment.

  • Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff. Acts as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system.

  • Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other imaging department processes and procedures.

  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:


  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin, and

  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and

  • Computed Tomography (CT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.


Education Required:


  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.


Experience Required:


  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in a CT Technologist role.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:


  • Advanced knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and radiation safety.

  • Proficient in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility).

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Intermediate computer skills.

  • Certification Addendum

  • Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital based certifications (e.g.DNV, CARF or others).


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.

  • Must be able to:

  • - lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.

  • - lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.

  • - carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.

  • Must be able to:

  • - push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.

  • - perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.

  • Must have clear speech, vision and hearing.

  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.

  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
