Qualifications

  • Completion of a radiologic technology program resulting in a 2-year certificate/associate degree or 4-year degree.
  • Current ARRT registration with CT certification; eligibility may be considered if licensed within six months.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS).

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality diagnostic CT examinations following established protocols.
  • Obtain patient history, explain procedures, obtain consent and address concerns.
  • Establish IV access per department protocol.
  • Verify order accuracy, precertification, and patient identification.
  • Ensure radiation safety and dose optimization for all patients.
  • Compile and review images and prepare documentation for interpretation.
  • Perform quality control testing and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain proficiency with RIS, PACS, EPIC and related systems.

General Summary Statement

Under the direction of a radiologist, performs high quality diagnostic imaging examinations using ingenuity, initiative and independent judgment of patients in a safe and timely manner, as ordered by physicians. Must follow physicians’ orders precisely, maintaining a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation to protect themselves, their patients, and their co-workers from unnecessary exposure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all necessary preparations related to CT procedures:
  • Obtains patient history, explains the procedure, gains consent for contrast material administration and address any patient concerns prior to beginning the procedure.
  • Obtains Intravenous access based off department protocol and Physician orders.
  • Performs all necessary checks for accuracy of the prescription, precertification/authorization if required by individual insurance companies, EPIC / Radiant order and patient identification.
  • Perform all CT procedures following the appropriate imaging protocols. All technical factors should be appropriate for the age of the patient with consideration of the tools available for shielding and dose reduction.
  • Compiles and reviews images, provides applicable comparison studies, and prepares documentation for interpretation.
  • Performs quality control testing as required.
  • Clean, adjust and perform routine maintenance on equipment; stock and replenish supplies as required.
  • Proficiency in departmental and hospital information technologies such as RIS, PACS, EPIC and job specific related areas.

Education Training and Experience

Satisfactory completion of a radiologic technology program resulting in a two year certificate and/or associate degree or four year baccalaureate degree.

Licensure/Certification

  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic technologists (ARRT) including advanced level CT certification (CT). Board eligible may be considered with license obtained within six months of hire. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
