Job summary

Bechtel is seeking a CSU Mechanical and Indirect Superintendent for the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine project in Cheyenne, Wyoming. You will assist the Commissioning Manager in managing mechanical and indirect CSU activities, startup, commissioning, and initial operation of mechanical systems at the project.

You will coordinate with electrical disciplines and other departments to complete testing from component level through integrated operation, while guiding craft supervision and prioritizing

Qualifications

• Relevant experience delivering large-scale combined cycle power projects.
• Broad knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and facilities operations criteria.
• Commissioning behind the meter power generation experience preferred; data centre integration preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of cost management and scheduling practices.
• Ability to lead teams and mentor craft personnel.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate startup-related engineering, construction, and client activities on site.
• Plan scope, procedures, schedules, and budgets for assigned work.
• Set up progress reporting and drive corrective actions with the team.
• Develop and evaluate discipline-specific plans and criteria for project activities.

Project Overview

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fuelling unprecedented demand for data centres that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S.

The candidate will act as the CSU Mechanical and Indirect Superintendent on the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Project in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Job Summary

The CSU Mechanical and Indirect Superintendent assists the Commissioning Manager in managing and supervising the mechanical and Indirect CSU activities at the project. The individual is responsible for the startup, commissioning, and initial operation of the mechanical systems and equipment at the project. The person in the role will be responsible for managing mechanical commissioning, including assigning priorities to the craft under his/her direction. This will require coordinating with the electrical disciplines and other functional departments to complete all required testing from component level through integrated operation with the rest of the facility.

Major Responsibilities

• Coordinates, as directed, with project management, the startup related engineering, construction, and client activities as an office assignment or during startup, operations, maintenance or testing at the jobsite.
• Conducts execution planning for assigned scope through scoping, plans, procedures, schedules, and budgets.
• Sets up progress reporting framework for scope area, and reviews on an ongoing basis with team, taking proactive course corrections as necessary.
• Develops and evaluates plans and criteria within the discipline or specialty for a variety of project activities.
• Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria and performance data relating to the specialty.
• Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned engineers, estimates staffing needs, schedules, and assigns work to meet completion dates.
• Provides technical advice and counsel on specific assignments by providing the resolution of technical questions arising in the area of specialty.
• Preparation of system testing and turnover documentation.
• Provides assistance to the training group on the project in the development of training program material intended for classroom and OJT training of client personnel.
• Applies knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria pertinent to utility scale mechanical systems such as ANSI/IEEE C50, IEEE C57, IEEE 115, NETA Guidelines, NFPA 70, to development of test plans and procedures.
• Uses well developed interpersonal skills to interact closely and frequently with client management and operations and maintenance personnel.

Education And Experience Requirements

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge And Skills

• Relevant experience in delivering large-scale combined cycle power projects.
• Broad working knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and facilities’ operations criteria pertinent to the activities supervised.
• Knowledge and experience with commissioning behind the meter power generation is preferred. Integration of power facilities in a data centre environment is preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of administrative practices including cost and scheduling.
• Ability to work effectively in leading in a team environment, motivating and supporting others.
• Demonstrated expert understanding of CSU core processes and procedures.
• Technical and practical comprehension of engineering, procurement, and construction functions and general business techniques.
• Excellent skill in oral and written communication with demonstrated skill to present CSU information to management and client.
• Knowledgeable in various mechanical system flushing and cleaning protocols.
• Skilled in leading and directing craft crews.
