Job description

CState Peer Supporter & Community Resource Specialist (Part-time)
Overview

The Peer Supporter & Community Resource Specialist will provide services to students with mental health, behavioral, and/or substance use challenges utilizing activities and services of the CState Recovery Community (CSRC) and Counseling Center. They will serve as an advocate for and on behalf of students' rights, actively promoting prevention, appropriate interventions, strategies, and language as part of CSRC.

Essential Duties
  • Provide trauma-informed, strength-based peer support to individuals and groups utilizing CSRC services or spaces
  • Provide peer support to address other mental health issues along with alcohol & other drug use that is not supported by other campus resources; behavioral concerns and substance use/misuse
  • Provide peer and community resource services to promote a sense of belonging for students in all types of recovery
  • Utilize harm reduction principles to enhance a sense of belonging on campus for students struggling with their mental health, behaviors, and/or substance use
  • Approach all types of recovery in a broad, holistic sense, addressing the needs of as many students as possible
  • Work with community and other stakeholders to build relationships with outside resources according to student needs
  • Facilitate outreach and prevention efforts within the college and community, including K‑12 institutions
  • Participate in trainings, meetings, groups, and other needed activities within the established part-time hours
  • Participate in professional development
  • Maintain a connection with the counseling center as well as related academic programs
Minimum Qualifications
  • Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) current certification with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services
  • At least 1‑2 years Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) experience
  • Experience working with behavioral concerns, substance use/misuse, and other mental health issues along with alcohol & other drugs
  • Accepting and knowledgeable of all styles of recovery
  • Demonstrated cultural competence
  • Demonstrated knowledge of housing and other needed resources in the community and beyond
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiar with or willing to learn Harm Reduction Principles
  • Trauma-informed certification or demonstrated through continued education

  • Statement of provider philosophy as a Certified Peer Supporter

  • Reports to: Senior Director Student Success & Development
  • Supervised by: Counseling Center Triage Coordinator
  • Minimum Hourly rate: $25/hr.
  • Contractual Affiliation: Non‑bargaining: Grant Funded
  • Exempt Classification: Non‑Exempt
  • Status: Part time (Not to exceed 29 hours per week.)
  • Benefits: Candidates selected for this part‑time role will not be eligible for benefits.
