Job summary

Bechtel Corporation seeks a candid and experienced Permitting Manager to support project execution at Thacker Pass, NV. You will coordinate stakeholder engagement with regulatory agencies and ensure permits align with project goals and environmental commitments.

Required is a bachelor's degree and extensive experience in permitting; U.S. experience and knowledge of Nevada codes are preferred. This role is office/project-based and offers national/international relocation options.

Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience coordinating major project permits and managing relationships with key regulatory and agency stakeholders.
  • Must have U.S. experience; Nevada building codes knowledge preferred.
  • Fluency in English language is also a key requirement for the role.

Responsibilities

  • Supports planning, implementation, and maintenance of the project permits and stakeholder engagement registers to track deliverables.
  • Provides technical support on permitting requirements and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Monitors and facilitates progress of permitting deliverables consistent with strategies, goals, measurements, and reporting standards.
  • Provides technical assistance to other project functional leads (e.g., engineering, procurement, construction, project controls) with regards to developing and tracking project-specific permitting requirements to ensure any commitments are integrated fully and appropriately.
  • Anticipates and manages issues, with particular emphasis on issues that have, or have the potential to, impact the constructability of the project and/or project reputation.
  • Provides advice for the project to manage the implementation of permitting requirements ensuring alignment with the project social and environmental performance commitments and strategy.
  • Provides advice to project teams on potential impacts, expectations, and related implications; assesses consequences of project decisions; and works with project functional teams to develop proactive solutions to community and environmental issues to minimize external risks and manage public expectations.
  • Supports ongoing understanding of national and regional priorities and plans and keeps abreast of legislative developments, stakeholder interests and concerns, and other influential trends.

Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team of contractors engineering and building the facility. The project is in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will work directly with the Bechtel Permitting manager to support successful project execution and coordinate stakeholder engagement with project personnel, regulatory and government agencies to facilitate required approvals. #LI-NP1

Major Responsibilities:
  • Supports planning, implementation, and maintenance of the project permits and stakeholder engagement registers to track deliverables.

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • The successful candidate will have relevant experience in coordinating major project permits and managing relationships with key regulatory and agency stakeholders.

  • Must have U.S. Experience. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable experience in Nevada's building codes and legislation.

  • Fluency in English language is also a key requirement for the role.
