Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, CA, is seeking a Macromolecular Crystallography Intern to help set up a new lab for high-throughput structural biology, develop automation, and test robotics for crystal handling and data collection.

You will model parts, 3D print components, document methods, and collaborate with engineers and scientists. Enrolled students or recent graduates in biology, chemistry, engineering, or related fields with lab experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from educational program in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related scientific/technical field.
• Completed college-level coursework in biology, chemistry, engineering, or a related field.
• Basic laboratory skills and ability to follow established safety procedures and experimental protocols.

Responsibilities

• Testing related to setting up crystallization trials, mounting protein crystals, blotting crystals and viewing crystallization screening outcomes.
• 3D Modeling and assembling mechanical parts.
• 3D printing components.
• Writing technical documentation.
