Job Summary

Respiratory Therapy involves assessment and treatment of patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Respiratory Therapists play vital roles in patient care and must have a broad understanding of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology and related procedures for patients of all ages.

About the Unit

Responsibilities

• Under the general supervision of the RT Supervisor or Team Leader, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures ordered by a physician
• Administer medical gas, aerosol therapy, obtain and analyze blood specimens, perform patient testing, operate and maintain respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment, provide mechanical ventilation, maintain artificial airways, assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, provide patient education, monitor equipment and patient response to therapy
• Complete documentation of inpatient and departmental records, clean equipment, and maintain safety and infection control practices

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (C.R.T.) or equivalent
• Additional state or national certifications such as RRT or RCP preferred
