Job summary

Emerson Elementary School in Mesa, AZ is seeking a part-time Crossing Guard to ensure the safe crossing of students before and after school. You will guide children, communicate safety policies, and cooperate with staff and parents in a focused, courteous manner.

The role requires reliable attendance, knowledge of crosswalk safety, and the ability to lift small signs and equipment. Base pay is $16.56 per hour with no listed benefits; performance pay is available annually.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of traffic safety rules and school policies and procedures.
• Ability to work well with students, staff and parents.
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with students, parents and staff.
• Ability to instruct students, parents, staff, etc. in proper and safe crosswalk practices.
• Must be able to push/pull up to 10lbs and lift/carry up to 10lbs.

• Communicate to students, parents, staff and visitors to ensure their understanding of school policies and enforcement procedures
• Report observation and/or incidents relating to students to appropriate school personnel
• Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns
• Wear orange safety vest and carry MPS issued, red hand-held sign to guide students, parents, staff, etc. through crossing area
• Place and remove school crossing and traffic control signs to notify motorists of school pedestrian crossing
• Regular on time attendance required
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

New Hire Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to aten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position
