Job summary

North Lincoln Middle School is seeking a part-time Cross Country Head Coach for the Boys Team for the Fall 2027 season. The role reports to the Principal and Athletic Director and involves leading program development, coaching duties, and compliance with NFHS course requirements.

Coaches may be paid as stipends based on experience with NCHSAA standards; CPR certification is required for paid staff, and onboarding including drug tests and background checks is required before working with students

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• HS Diploma or GED.
• Coaching experience preferred.
• NFHS coaching courses required before work with athletes.
• CPR certification required for paid coaches.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership in planning, developing and implementing an instructional program in the sport as assigned.
• Administers the sport program and fosters a learning climate.
• Implements improvement processes for the sport and maintains professional work habits.
• Communicates with parents and the educational community; builds positive relations with participants and staff.
• Cooperates with the principal and athletic director; helps organize staff; may need CDL bus driver license.
• Other duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Principal, Athletic Director

SALARY: Coaching Stipend - based on coaching experience with NCHSAA

Qualifications/Requirements: Must be at least 21 years old, HS Diploma or GED, coaching experience preferred. All coaches (volunteer or paid) must complete required coaching courses NFHS.com website. CPR certification for paid coaches is required and may be completed through the school system if needed. You must complete your HR onboarding policies, your HR screening (drug test and background check) and have a current health physical and TB test. This is all required before being approved to work with student athletes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides leadership and support in planning, developing and implementing an instructional program in the sport as assigned
• Provides leadership and support in administering the sport program
• Works to foster a climate conducive to learning as assigned
• Works to establish and implement an improvement process for the sport as assigned
• Works to establish good public and employee relations for the sport as assigned
• Maintains professional work habits
• Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills in order to improve instruction for students
• Communicates with parents and the educational community (Professional and Interpersonal Relations)
• Implements fundamental sports skills and sports management systems (Coaching and Related Areas)
• Cooperates with school principal and school athletic director; develops rapport with coaching staff and with the school; helps to organize coaching staff; develops positive relationship with participants, student body, faculty, parents and community, game officials, news media, opponents and employees; employs appropriate conduct during games and practices; participates in activities that foster professional growth and development; commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language
• Must be eligible and willing to obtain CDL bus driver's license for driving the Activity bus.

Coaching Courses Required

All coaches (volunteer or paid) must complete the following courses through the National Fundamentals of High School (NFHS.com) before being approved to work with student athletes:

• Fundamentals of Coaching (8 +/- hour) High School Coaches
• Concussion Training (45 minute) - All Coaches
• Sudden Cardiac Arrest - All Coaches
• Coaching Mental Health and Wellness for Students - Head Coaches
• CPR Certificate Required
