Job summary

River Valley Cooperative in Eldridge, IA is seeking a Crop Scouting Intern to join our intern team. You will work directly with the area agronomy sales advisor to scout fields for weeds, insects and disease pressure, and occasionally submit tissue samples.

Interns will attend training events and shadow with account managers and precision ag specialists. You will work with a mentor daily, ride along on crop scouting and farm visits to gain a true day-to-day experience of a sales agronomist and

  • Ag background preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Training sessions with our Agronomy Professionals and a formal program facilitated by Winfield.
  • Complete regular plot visits to discuss weed and disease trends.
  • Attend coordinated field trips to vendors and suppliers within the industry.
  • Shadow a mentor daily to learn crop scouting and farm visits.
  • Join board meetings to gain insight to member-owner perspectives.
  • Represent River Valley at local summer fairs.
  • Complete a summer-long project to report on at internship end.

Job Location: Eldridge - Eldridge, IA 52748, Position Type: Intern, Salary Range: $18.00 - $18.00 Hourly, Job Shift: Day Shift, Job Category: Agriculture, River Valley Cooperative is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Intern team.

Crop Scouting interns will work directly with the area agronomy sales advisor. Main duties of this position is scout fields for weeds, insect and disease pressure, and occasionally take and submit tissue samples. Interns will attend training events and job shadow with account managers, precision ag specialist and other departments within RVC.

What You'll Do:
  • Participate in Training sessions with our experienced Agronomy Professionals. Including a formal training program facilitated by Winfield. They will complete regular plot visits to discuss weed and disease to watch for that particular time.
  • Participate in coordinated Field Trips to vendors and suppliers within our industry.
  • Tour River Valley facilities and learn about all areas within our company (Grain, Feed, Agronomy and Energy)
  • Work with a Mentor to receive a guided learning experience. Interns will work directly with their mentor daily. They will ride along with them on crop scouting, farm visits, etc. to get a true experience of the day-to-day of a sales agronomist and/or precision ag specialist. They will also shadow sales in our other departments to give a well-rounded experience with other ag sales opportunities (feed, grain and energy).
  • Join a board meeting to gain insight to their perspective as member-owners, as well as board members.
  • Represent River Valley at local summer Fairs
  • Complete an assigned a summer-long project to report on at the close of their internship.
Qualifications: What you'll bring:

Working Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, heat, cold, ag chemicals and vapors, and moving machinery on occasion as part of this position. May be required to work long hours in season, as well as work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
