Job summary

Syngenta Crop Protection is offering a Crop Protection Field Development Intern position in Rocky Mount, NC. In this hands-on internship you will work with experienced R&D scientists, participate in field, greenhouse, and lab activities, and contribute to product development projects.

You will gain practical skills, shadow colleagues across teams, and develop professional competencies while supporting trialing activities and data capture under guidance.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in Associate's, Bachelor's or related degree in Agriculture or Biological Sciences.
  • Must remain enrolled after internship; graduation in December 2027 or later.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors and outside normal hours.

Responsibilities

  • Build knowledge of Syngenta, crop protection, and product development processes.
  • Support field development trialing activities: planting, treatments, data capture, and field tours.
  • Collaborate with local Syngenta teams (Sales, Agronomy Services) as needed.
  • Work independently with safety compliance and supervision as required.
  • Deliver a final internship project summary and participate in performance discussions.

Syngenta's Product Biology Team is seeking aCrop Protection Field Development Intern in Rocky Mount, NC. This internship role will work alongside experienced R&D Scientists on meaningful projects that contribute to the development of crop protection products and technologies. You will be exposed to independent project work as well as job shadowing and cross-functional opportunities. You will gain hands‑on experience in field, greenhouse, and/or laboratory environments while building technical, professional, and leadership skills.

As part of Syngenta's Emerging Talent Program, you will gain hands‑on experience, exposure to day‑to‑day business operations, and opportunities to apply your academic knowledge to real‑world challenges while developing your professional skills.

Accountabilities:

  • Build knowledge of Syngenta, crop protection, and the product development process.
  • Develop an understanding of Crop Protection Field Development’s role in research and development.
  • Support Crop Protection Field Development trialing activities, such as planting, treatment application, maintenance, in-field data capture, data summarization, and hosting field tours.
  • Develop an understanding of Crop Protection Field Development’s collaboration with local Syngenta commercial teams (e.g., Sales, Agronomy Services).
  • Learn processes and skills utilized to develop products and technologies.
  • Learn how to work independently, without direct supervision, and in compliance with Syngenta safety guidelines.
  • Identify two to three personal development goals and actively pursue them throughout the internship.
  • Manage an internship project under the guidance of Crop Protection Field Development Scientist(s).
  • Deliver a final summary presentation of the internship project/experience to stakeholders.
  • Participate in performance discussions with a supervisor to support continuous learning, growth, and professional development.
  • Current enrollment in an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or advanced degree program in Agriculture, Biological Sciences, or another closely related field of study.
  • Continued enrollment in an academic program after the internship concludes (graduation date of December 2027 or later).
  • A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors and outside normal working hours.
  • Proficiency operating basic farm equipment is beneficial but not required.

Salary for this position ranges between $20 - $45 hourly.
