Job description

Responsibilities
  • Select surgical setting anesthesia and administer anesthetic, adjuvant drugs, and fluids for all types of surgical cases.
  • Pre‑anesthetic preparation and evaluation, anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, post‑anesthetic care, peri‑anesthetic and clinical support functions.
  • Select, apply and insert appropriate non‑invasive and invasive monitoring modalities to collect and interpret patient physiological data.
  • Manage airway and pulmonary status using endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy or extubation.
  • Release or discharge patients from the post‑anesthesia care area and provide post‑anesthesia follow‑up evaluation and care related to anesthesia side effects or complications.
  • Order, initiate or modify pain relief therapy through drugs, regional anesthetic techniques, or other accepted pain relief modalities, including epidural analgesia.
  • Respond to emergency situations with airway management, administration of emergency fluids or drugs and basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Provide clinical support services outside the operating room, including radiology, endoscopy, emergency department or invasive laboratories.
  • Provide consultation and implementation of respiratory and ventilatory care upon request or referral.
  • Identify and manage emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation that involves airway maintenance, ventilation, tracheal intubation, pharmacologic and cardiopulmonary support, and management of blood, fluid, electrolyte and acid‑base balance.
  • Perform additional nurse anesthesia responsibilities within the individual's expertise as authorized by Medical Staff and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Perform clinical and didactic teaching, supervision and evaluation of students and interdepartmental liaising.
  • Serve as a member of departmental committees and participate in research.
Qualifications
  • Licensed or temporary permit to practice professional nursing and advanced practice nursing in Louisiana.
  • Licensed as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (RN/CRNA).
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.
