Job summary

Salute Inc. is hiring a Sr. Critical Facility Engineer (Shift Lead) for onsite work in Forest Grove, OR. The role leads daily operations of data center electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems to maximise uptime. Salary is $58.65–$65.86 per hour, with full-time, onsite duties.

The position requires 3–5 years in data center engineering and leadership, with strong knowledge of HVAC, standby power, UPS, and NFPA codes. Onsite travel is expected as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with two years of technical schooling.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a critical facilities engineer or equivalent leadership.
  • 3–5 years of data center engineering operations experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, standby power, and UPS systems.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 codes.
  • Industrial safety practices (lockout/tagout, arc flash, OSHA).

Overview

Sr. Critical Facility Engineer (Shift Lead) – Full Time, onsite in Forest Grove, OR. Responsibilities include leading operations and maintenance of data center electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems to ensure high reliability and uptime. Salary range: $58.65 to $65.86 hourly.

Responsibilities
  • Lead Critical Facility Engineers in daily operations and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain focus on assigned tasks while upholding a strong safety commitment.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot critical facility systems.
  • Complete preventive and corrective maintenance across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Inspect and maintain HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems for safe and efficient operation.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, environmental issues, and air quality concerns.
  • Create, track, and close work requests and work orders; verify completion of assigned work.
  • Monitor contractor performance and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Provide electrical, mechanical, controls, and water chemistry expertise for data center operations.
  • Coordinate with management, contractors, and consultants on construction, commissioning, and system integration projects.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs and system commissioning activities.
  • Drive operational efficiency through performance analysis, technology improvements, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Manage electrical capacity and loading for data center white space and back-of-house systems.
  • Oversee contractors performing critical maintenance on UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, and related systems.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED with two years of technical schooling focused on mission-critical operations, industrial manufacturing, or relevant military experience in electrical and mechanical systems.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Critical Facilities Engineer or equivalent leadership in critical facility infrastructure.
  • 3–5 years of experience in data center engineering operations (DCEO), maintenance, and engineering supporting critical facilities operations.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of critical data center systems, including HVAC, standby emergency power, and UPS.
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Strong background in operating mechanical and electrical critical systems, design review, layout, and installation; ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical one-lines.
  • Ability to assess power and thermal system capacity, safety, and code compliance.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 and related compliance issues.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial/industrial electrical systems (e.g., MV switchgear, 480/277 V and 208/120 V systems, diesel generators, UPS, battery systems, PLC/relay logic, data center PDU/monitoring).
  • Current knowledge of NFPA Electrical, Fire and Life Safety and local building codes.
  • Industrial safety best practices (lockout/tagout, arc flash protection, OSHA, and state regulations).
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs to access elevated equipment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in various environments.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment tasks.
  • Good physical fitness to respond quickly to emergencies and navigate facilities.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures and noise levels; wear safety glasses and hearing protection as required.
  • Valid driver’s license for work-related travel, as required.
