Critical Facilities HVAC Field Technician (Data Centers)Picture the heartbeat of a data center: rows of servers relying on precisely tuned cooling and mechanical systems to run nonstop. As our technician, you’re the guardian of that rhythm—installing, maintaining, and restoring equipment so uptime never wavers. You’ll travel as needed to work on mission-critical environments where safety, speed, and accuracy define success. What your day can look likeYou start by reviewing overnight alerts and maintenance logs. Onsite, you walk down CRAC/CRAH units and chilled water components, verify setpoints, and perform scheduled PMs. A sudden temperature deviation triggers a service call—you diagnose airflow and control sequences, replace a suspect component, and restore stability. In the afternoon, you assist with startup and commissioning for new equipment, share best practices with a junior tech, and close the day documenting performance trends and repairs.Core responsibilitiesSafely perform maintenance, service, and troubleshooting in live data centers and other mission-critical settingsInspect, maintain, and repair cooling systems, including CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems, pumps, and related mechanical equipmentExecute preventative maintenance to drive reliability and maximize uptimeDiagnose issues with cooling, air distribution, temperature control, and overall equipment performanceSupport installation, startup, and commissioning of new mechanical and cooling assetsRespond to service calls and complete timely repairs on critical systems to minimize downtimeOffer technical guidance and field support to fellow techniciansAccurately document maintenance tasks, corrective actions, and system performance dataFollow safety procedures and operational standards specific to mission-critical facilitiesObtain an NCCER Performance Evaluator credential and contribute to ongoing learning and developmentWhat you bring5+ years working with mechanical, cooling, or critical infrastructure systems—ideally in data centers or similar high-availability facilitiesDeep understanding of mechanical systems supporting data center operationsHands-on knowledge of cooling systems, airflow management, chilled water systems, and environmental controlsExperience executing equipment startups and commissioning activitiesComfort with service tools, test instruments, and diagnostics used in critical facilitiesCalm, methodical troubleshooting skills under pressureClear, professional communication—constant interaction with site escorts and facility teams is part of the jobHigh School Diploma required; technical school preferredOSHA 10 preferred; EPA Certification preferredValid Driver’s License requiredPhysical demandsRegular standing, walking, and sitting; frequent talking and hearing in person and via phone; use of hands and fingers for tools and controls; reaching; routine stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; and driving.BenefitsThe company covers most of your health insurance premium and contributes to your HSA.
