Job summary

Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Illinois seeks a Physician Assistant to join its Critical Care team. You will provide comprehensive care for critically ill patients in a 24-bed ICU (CVICU + Medical/Surgical), participating in admissions, daily management, and discharge planning while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Onboarding includes a structured orientation with progressive autonomy; scheduling offers 8- and 12-hour shifts, days/evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Physician Assistant required.
• New graduate candidates with significant critical care clinical training are encouraged to apply.
• Prior critical care, acute care, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, or related clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care for critically ill patients in an ICU setting, including admissions and initial assessments (H&Ps), daily management, progress notes, consults, care coordination, transfers, and discharge planning.
• Work closely with Critical Care physicians and a broad network of specialty consultants to deliver evidence-based critical care.
• Practice in a combined 24-bed ICU environment (12-bed CVICU + 12-bed Medical/Surgical ICU).
• Typical census of 6–8 patients per shift with a mix of new admissions and established ICU patients.
• Perform bedside procedures with physician support (arterial line placement, central venous catheter insertion, dialysis catheter placement, thoracentesis, paracentesis, airway management).
• Comprehensive onboarding with procedural training, including a multi-month orientation with progressive autonomy.
