Qualifications

Responsibilities

Crisis Therapist - Richmond, VA

Horizon Health Corporation is seeking a Crisis Therapist for our brand new Crisis Receiving Center with 24 chairs in Richmond, VA. The Crisis Therapist is responsible for managing the care of individuals experiencing behavioral health crises, conducting comprehensive assessments, and developing treatment plans tailored to the individual's immediate needs. This role collaborates closely with psychiatric providers and the multidisciplinary team, gathering collateral information, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions, and providing a full range of social work services, including discharge planning. The Crisis Therapist also maintains a clinical caseload and ensures all documentation meets regulatory and organizational standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Assessment & Treatment Planning
    • Conduct thorough, accurate, and clinically sound psychosocial assessments in a timely manner.
    • Maintain complete and accurate clinical records, including documentation of all service activities.
    • Obtain necessary treatment-related signatures from patients.
    • Gather collateral information from patients, clinics, providers, petitioners, and other sources to determine immediate treatment and discharge needs.
    • Develop and implement individualized, person-centered treatment plans appropriate for brief intervention.
    • Review treatment plans with patients and relevant parties and ensure signatures are obtained.
  • Clinical Collaboration & Case Coordination
    • Participate in regular case staffing with psychiatric providers, sharing new information and ensuring clinically appropriate patient disposition.
    • Collaborate with medical providers, nurses, BHTs, and peer support staff to monitor, engage, and maintain patient safety.
    • Serve as a point of contact for legal processes and maintain working knowledge of involuntary commitment procedures.
    • Attend COE hearings when subpoenaed
  • Therapeutic Interventions
    • Provide brief intervention, individual, family, and group counseling as appropriate.
    • Assist in redirecting patient behavior when necessary.
    • Maintain a safe milieu and document all therapeutic services and activities
  • Professional Requirements & Compliance
    • Maintain working knowledge of the behavioral health system, including available funding sources.
    • Maintain active licensure in accordance with state standards.
    • Participate in individual and group clinical supervision as required.
    • Engage in ongoing education, training, and competency validations (e.g., post-tests, skill demonstrations, performance reviews)
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree required
  • 3 - 5 years of related work experience required.
  • Active unencumbered license in the state where performing services LAC, LPC, LASAC, LISAC, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT required
  • Minimum of one year of clinical and crisis operations experience
  • Knowledge of all code procedures and safety protocols
  • Knowledge of personal hygiene training techniques
  • Knowledge of psychiatric care techniques
  • Knowledge of aggressive behavior management techniques
  • Knowledge and training in CPR/First Aid
  • Knowledge of admitting and intake procedures
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, including the ability to meet deadlines
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and coworkers
  • Adhere to safety standards and organizational policies
  • Accept feedback and follow established procedures
  • Meet corporate training deadlines
  • Skilled in building rapport and working collaboratively with diverse populations
  • Eligible for Board Certification.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information
