New York City Police Department is seeking a Criminalist within the Crime Scene Unit to conduct chemical, physical, and microscopic analyses of diverse evidentiary materials and to support investigations through accurate documentation and reporting.
You will train in laboratory standards, quality control procedures, and report preparation while working 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Residency is not required for this civil service role.

The Crime Scene Unit is a sub-unit within the Forensic Investigations Unit. The role of the Crime Scene Unit is to search for, identify, document, process, collect and forward the forensic evidence for examination to support the ongoing investigations within the Criminal Justice System.
Candidates selected will be assigned to the Crime Scene Unit within the Detective Bureau to receive training for and the performance of scientific laboratory analyses, and the testing of evidentiary material required in scientific criminal and civil investigations.

In addition to meeting the "Qualification Requirements For All Assignment Levels" above, to be assigned to Assignment Level I-B individuals must have at least one year of satisfactory full-time experience in criminalistics, forensic science or analytic chemistry, or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
