We are seeking a new Bureau Chief to lead the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Program. The Bureau Chief provides statewide leadership, vision, and strategic direction within the Division of Statewide Services.
Manage essential programs including the sex offender registry, criminal history repository, statewide licensing initiatives, and the department’s records management unit.
Mentor, support, and provide direction to our amazing team and represent Alaska on national boards and committees.
Oversee contracts and federal grants to ensure financial stability and compliance with state and federal requirements.
Work closely with partner agencies to promote and facilitate public safety data sharing initiatives.

The Department of Public Safety’s mission is protecting life, property, and Alaska’s natural resources and providing critical support to communities across Alaska to ensure all Alaskans have access to public safety services. The Division of Statewide Services, one of seven divisions in the department, supports this mission by maintaining the integrity, security, and efficiency of Alaska’s criminal history record, fingerprint identification, and justice information systems supporting law enforcement and the broader criminal justice community.

This position oversees multiple sections that provide statewide support through subordinate managers. In this position you will gain experience and further develop your career in these key areas:
Help shape public safety policies and systems that directly support law enforcement, employers, licensing agencies, and public safety across Alaska.

This position is based at the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Headquarters, located at 5700 East Tudor Road in East Anchorage. The facility offers ample on-site parking and is directly served by public transportation. Scenic paved trails and views of the Chugach Mountains surround the building.
You will work closely with the Deputy Bureau and other members of the management team who all work at the same location as well as with partner organizations both within and outside Alaska. Quarterly out-of-state travel is required to attend national conferences representing Alaska.
Knowledge of human resource concepts, principles, and practices related to determining workload projections and current and future competency gaps to align staffing with organizational goals.
Has knowledge of the principles and methods for evaluating program or organizational performance using metrics and outcomes, goal setting, and performance review and improvement.
Develop and administer large operational budgets with multiple funding sources, allocate resources strategically, and ensure fiscal stewardship aligned with performance objectives and public accountability expectations.
