Job summary

Costen Ruiz Law in Orange, CA seeks a Criminal Defense Attorney to manage a caseload across Los Angeles and Orange County courts. The role involves handling all phases of criminal defense from pre-filing to post-conviction relief and requires strong courtroom skills and client communication.

Base salary is determined by experience with an annual bonus; candidates should have a CA Bar license and a drive to provide excellent service in a busy criminal defense firm with multiple client meetings

Qualifications

• Min 1 year criminal defense experience, including felony cases.
• Criminal trial experience is a plus.
• Experience handling preliminary hearings.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
• CA bar license with no disciplinary record.

Responsibilities

• Manage own caseload and court calendar.
• Handle all phases of criminal defense in Los Angeles & Orange County courts.
• Prepare for and attend arraignments, readiness conferences, probation violations, sentencing.
• Negotiate plea bargains or negotiated dispositions at misdemeanor and felony conferences.
• Prepare for and conduct jury and bench trials.
• Counsel clients on legal defenses, constitutional rights, and case strategies.
• Communicate with clients regularly on case status.
• Draft pleadings, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and motions.
• Conduct administrative DMV hearings for DUI cases.
• Prepare for and conduct TRO trials.
• Meet clients and recommend strategies; coordinate with prosecutors, witnesses, and experts.
