Job summary

City of Atlanta Public Defender's Office seeks an Assistant Attorney to provide zealous representation for indigent clients in the Municipal Court, handling misdemeanors, city ordinance, and traffic matters. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to address underlying issues like addiction, mental illness and homelessness, link clients to services, and navigate courtroom and jail settings daily.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of criminal law and criminal procedure demonstrated by education and experience.
• Excellent research and writing skills required.
• Experience in related civil practice areas is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Represent indigent clients in the Municipal Court on misdemeanors, city ordinance, and traffic violations.
• Develop case strategies with investigators, social workers, and advocates.
• Manage court appearances, plea negotiations, and sentencing referrals.
• Maintain and organize case files and schedules with adherence to regulations.
• Comfort working in jail environments and daily contact with clients.
