Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Crew Leader - Sanitation to lead, support, and coordinate crews in sanitation tasks, park maintenance, and street repair projects.

You will supervise daily assignments, provide on-site training, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance across operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operation.
• Some supervisory/leadwork experience is required.
• Two (2) years of experience operating a tractor-trailer plus one (1) year of heavy equipment operation, and some supervisory/leadwork experience will meet the requirements.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, prepares, and issues daily work assignments for crewmembers and delegates work to ensure completion and safety.
• Provides on-site job training and ensures proper, safe work methods; resolves issues and supports escalated incidents.
• Performs preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and equipment cleaning.
• Operates a roto boom to collect bulky brush items set out by citizens.
• Responds to citizens’ complaints to facilitate prompt solutions.
• Performs other trades work as needed.

The Crew Leader - Sanitation leads, supports, coordinates, and directs various crews in the performance of different tasks for the department. Support forestry and park maintenance operations, routine to complex street repair projects, and the operation and maintenance of lake spillway gates.

Essential Functions

• Organizes, prepares, and issues daily work assignments for crewmembers; coordinates and delegates work to ensure successful completion; provides leadership and direction to ensure safety and technical standards are followed.
• 2 Provides on-site job training and ensures proper, safe, and efficient work methods of crew members; resolves challenging issues and provides support for escalated incidents.
• 3 Ensures, checks, and performs preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and general equipment cleaning.
• 4 Operates a roto boom to collect bulky brush items set out by citizens in the City of Dallas
• 5 Handles and responds to citizens’ complaints or concerns to facilitate prompt and efficient solutions.
• 6 Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.

Knowledge And Skills

• Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
• 2 Knowledge of how to operate and care of specialized equipment such as a roto boom.
• 3 Knowledge of standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic sign.
• 4 Ability to perform a variety of manual labor for extended period of time and in all types of weather conditions.
• 5 Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work with heavy equipment.
• 6 Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read charts, and maintain written records.
• 7 Ability to work in a fast paced environment with constant awareness and attention to detail of safety guidelines.
• 8 Ability to facilitate success of crews and personnel performing sanitation work throughout the City.
• 9 Communicating effectively and in writing.
• 10 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Education

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED

Experience

• Three (3) years of experience in heavy equipment operation (e.g., excavator, track/wheeled loader, bulldozer, motor grader, rotoboom).

AND

• Some supervisory/leadwork experience.

Equivalency

• Two (2) years of experience operating a tractor-trailer plus one (1) year of heavy equipment operation (e.g., excavator, track/wheeled loader, bulldozer, motor grader, rotoboom) and some supervisory/leadwork experience will meet the experience requirements.

License

• Valid driver's license and a good driving record.

Other Requirements-all Positions

• Subject to overtime and/or shift work.
• Subject to inclement weather conditions.

Salary Range

$25.87 - $30.04

The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
